Nicki Minaj rose to prominence in the early 2010s, catching people’s attention with her strong personality and bold lyrics. The rapper also has a “no nonsense” attitude and shown time and time again that she is not afraid to stand up for herself.

This sometimes put Minaj at odds with other celebrities. However, as a result, Minaj has been known to have some famous feuds over the years. Let’s walk down memory lane and see which famous people Minaj has had beef with, and see who might be next.

Iggy Azalea

In the early 2010s, both Minaj and Iggy Azalea were becoming big names in hip-hop, though fans did not think that they had the best relationship with each other. This was exacerbated at the 2015 BET Awards when Minaj seemed to have dissed Azalea in her acceptance speech.

“What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,” Minaj said, referring to the rumors that Azalea does not write her own rap lyrics.

Minaj later wrote on Twitter that she “will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us,” though she never denied that her statement was a jab at Azalea. However, she did say: “I’ve congratulated Iggy on the success of Fancy, publicly. She should be very proud of that.”

In response to all the media circus, Azalea also told fans on Instagram that she’s “unbothered by anything that ‘happened’ at the BET awards and just feel worn out by everyone trying to make me have wars with people all the time.”

Taylor Swift

In 2015, Minaj also had a small scuffle with Taylor Swift on social media. When Minaj’s “Anaconda” video was not nominated for “Video of the Year” at the MTV VMAs, she took to Twitter to vent her frustration.

“If I was a different ‘kind’ of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well,” Minaj wrote. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year.”

Swift seemed to think that these tweets were aimed at her since her “Bad Blood” video that was up for nominations featured many models with “slim bodies.” She told Minaj: “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.”

Minaj, then, responded to Swift, stating that the tweets were not about her. “Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much,” Minaj said.

While the media did not hesitate to print headlines about this argument, Swift eventually apologized, admitting that she “missed the point” of Minaj’s tweets, which seemed to be more about racism and the status of black artists in the music industry more so than her “Bad Blood” video.

For a while there, it sort of seemed like Minaj and Swift made up. However, in 2017, Minaj was featured in Katy Perry’s song “Swish Swish,” which was allegedly about Perry’s feud with Swift. It is unclear what Minaj and Swift’s relationship is like nowadays.

Miley Cyrus

During the MTV VMAs, Minaj made headlines again. This time, her feud was with Miley Cyrus, not Swift. A month before the show, Cyrus talked about Minaj’s feud with Swift in an interview. Cyrus called Minaj “not too kind.” In response, Minaj called Cyrus out on stage at the VMAs.

“Now, back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press,” Minaj said. “Miley, what’s good?!”

Cyrus defended herself by saying that reporters often try to “manipulate” words in interviews. However, Minaj continued to call Cyrus out on her cultural appropriation, saying: “You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important?”

It seems Minaj and Cyrus are still at odds with each other. In May 2019, Cyrus released a song with the lyrics “I love you, Nicki, but I listen to Cardi,” which hints at Minaj’s feud with Cardi B.

Cardi B

Minaj’s feud with Cardi B might perhaps be one of her most famous ones. Both Minaj and Cardi B are prominent female rappers in the industry, and the two of them have been shading each other with their lyrics in the past few years.

It’s not clear why exactly they dislike each other. Rumors of a feud only started surfacing in 2017 after Minaj liked a fan post that dissed Cardi B’s lyrics. In 2018, their feud escalated to a physical altercation. Minaj and Cardi B got into a fight at a New York Fashion Week event, where Cardi B reportedly yelled at Minaj: “Bitch you feisty! Bitch don’t talk s— about my child!” Afterward, Cardi B was escorted out with a bump on her forehead and no shoes.

Minaj denied ever saying anything bad about Cardi B’s daughter, though it does not seem the two have made up.

Who might Nicki Minaj feud with next?

Given Minaj’s pattern of getting into feuds often, it seems likely that she will have another one in the future, even if she is reportedly retiring from music. Minaj has mostly fought with other female artists, so it’s possible that her next feud will be with a fellow rapper or a pop singer.

However, Minaj is also looking to get married and start a family with her boyfriend Kenneth Petty. With some huge life changes ahead of her, there could be a chance that Minaj might also want to change her mindset about feuding with other artists and simply lay low.
