Alana Thompson, better known as Honey Boo Boo, may only be 13 years old, but there are serious concerns about the reality TV star’s money. In fact, her family is so worried about the youngster, that they’ve made moves to ensure her mother, June ‘Mama June’ Shannon can’t get her grubby hands on the kid’s earnings. Concerns about Mama June have been mounting for months, but now, it looks like the entire family is ready to step up to keep her away from the teen and her cash.
The family has removed all of Honey Boo Boo’s money from an account she shared with Mama June
Honey Boo Boo first took the television world by storm as a 7-year-old beauty pageant hopeful. Her wild family and big personality earned her her very own reality show. While the show was canceled when Mama June decided to hang around with a convicted child molester, a lot of money exchanged hands. The now 13-year-old is believed to have made around $50,000 per episode for season one, according to Heavy.
Honey Boo Boo has gone on to make guest appearances on other shows and is even a paid influencer on Instagram. Family members are worried that Mama June had access to the money that belongs to Alana, so they decided to make some changes. They legally moved all of her funds out of an account she shared with her mother, and into a much safer situation. Legal protections have also been put in place to make sure everything stays on the up and up.
Honey Boo Boo’s sister has been added to her account
Honey Boo Boo’s 19-year-old sister, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Shannon, has been added to the 13-year-old’s bank account. She can access the funds, but only for things that directly relate to Honey Boo Boo. Several safeguards have been put in place to ensure Pumpkin cannot use the money for her own needs.
According to TMZ, Pumpkin will need to submit receipts for any money removed from the account. Pumpkin was the obvious choice. After all, the barely legal young adult has become Honey Boo Boo’s de facto guardian. Honey Boo Boo has been residing with her sister for months. She refuses to head back to her mother’s home as long as Mama June’s boyfriend, Geno Doak is there.
Why is everyone so worried about Mama June?
Mama June has been a busy bee in recent months. The famous reality TV mom was arrested in March on drug possession charges. According to TMZ, police responded to a domestic disturbance at an Alabama gas station. When police arrived, they found drug paraphernalia and arrested both Mama June and Doak. Mama June was allegedly acting erratically.
The arrest didn’t seem to phase the troubled mother, though. She has spent the months since her arrest gambling and engaging with Doak. Most of her family believes the drug problem is still active, and that she could potentially begin taping into Honey Boo Boo’s money to fuel her lifestyle.
