Everyone’s favorite Viking warrior will be back for season 4 of The Last Kingdom. The historical drama is set in the 9th century, smack in the middle of The Viking Age. During this time, Vikings were settling England’s shores, to the reluctance of its Saxon residents. The story follows Uhtred son of Uhtred, a Saxon boy taken by the Danes and raised as their own. He has been trying to find his way in the world ever since. Where do his loyalties lie this season?

When will ‘The Last Kingdom’ season 4 premiere?

The Last Kingdom was renewed and announced in December 2018. In April 2019, Netflix confirmed that filming began on the show. The official Instagram page for the series invites fans to “join Uhtred next year on Netflix as the battle continues.” This means the show will more than likely premiere in 2020, which isn’t too far off.

Who is returning for season 4?

The series is adapted from Bernard Cornwell’s novels on which the show is based. The next book in the series, The Pagan Lord, jumps ahead by a decade. If the next season follows suit, there will be a host of new faces for obvious reasons.

Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) will, of course, be back as the main character. This new season will show Uhtred challenging his uncle Aelfric (Joseph Millson), as the kingdom is divided and fractured between the Vikings and the native Saxons.

A few familiar and returning faces include Father Beocca (Ian Hart), Aethelred (Toby Regbo), Brida (Emily Cox), King Edward (Timothy Innes), Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth), Finan (Mark Rowley), Aethelflead (Millie Brady), Cnut (Magnus Bruun), and Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen).

Netflix confirmed a new face joining the cast as “Aethelred’s new love conquest.” Stephanie Martini will play the new role in the upcoming season. Jamie Blackley will also join the cast as Aethelred’s new right-hand man named Eardwulf.

Is there a trailer for season 4 of ‘The New Kingdom?’

Unfortunately, there isn’t a trailer that has been released of the new season. Fans can catch up on the last three seasons on Netflix in preparation for the upcoming season. The Last Kingdom is no longer available on the BBC, as the third season was made solely by Netflix and Carnival Films. There are, however, a number of new photos to tide fans over.

A few photos have been released of season 4

A few images have been released as filming is still underway. A behind-the-scenes picture shared by the hair and makeup designer on set showed “one of the first new pictures” of Uhtred. He will rock a new style this season. One of the images has him riding a horse and ready for anything. Uhtred will sport a new hairstyle, as is evident in the newly released images.

“I am honored and blessed to work with this truly professional #arsling one of the first new pictures of the lord,” wrote the hair and makeup designer.

A new image shows Uhtred and Father Beocca together again

The official Twitter page for The Last Kingdom released a few still images of the upcoming season as well. One of them shows Uhtred along with Father Beocca. It appears the close pair will be working together again for the good of the kingdom and probably the new king. Another image shows a behind-the-scenes moment during filming. Fans won’t have to wait that much longer to see how the fates play out for Uhtred and the rest of their favorites.
