Everything We Know About Abigail Spencer’s Return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Abigail Spencer is returning to Grey’s Anatomy. Spencer will reprise her role as Megan Hunt, sister to Owen (Kevin McKidd), according to E! News.
Spencer is reportedly only set to appear in one episode during Season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy. The details about her character’s return are being kept private.
When viewers last saw Megan Hunt
The last time viewers saw her character she was starting over in California where she got a beach house with Riggs (Martin Henderson) and her son.
Prior to this her character had been held captive in the Middle East. Her family and friends presumed she was dead. In true Grey’s Anatomy fashion, anything can happen and it did. She escaped captivity and made it back to Seattle and eventually got her son to join her there.
Spencer revealed the news on Instagram
On March 5, 2019, Spencer posted a picture of her wearing scrubs and Megan Hunt’s signature red hair. She captioned the image, “Red hair. Super care. Megan Hunt is baaaaack!” followed by the fire emoji, redhead emoji, and an arm flex emoji.
Spencer didn’t give any details about why her character is back. But maybe, given recent events on the show — no spoilers — she wants to spend time with brother or simply visit Gray-Sloan Memorial Hospital for old times’ sake.
Where you’ve seen Spencer
Spencer played Scottie on Suits, a high-powered attorney and love interest of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht). It was there that she became friends with Meghan Markle, who was playing Rachel Zane on the show.
She starred in NBC’s action-adventure series, Timeless, where she played Lucy, a history teacher who travels back in time.
In 2015, Spencer played Gena Brune in six episodes of True Detective, according to IMDB. She also played Suzanne Farrell on six episodes of Mad Men.
From 2013 to 2016, she played Amantha Holden on the USA series, Rectify. In the show, her character’s husband is on death row when DNA evidence comes to light that suggests he may be innocent after spending 19 years in prison. Crime show enthusiasts should add Rectify to their list of shows to watch.
Spencer’s friendship with Meghan Markle
As we already mentioned, Spencer and Markle met while filming Suits. It’s fitting that Spencer is now playing a character with the same name –albeit with different spelling– as one of her closest friends.
Spencer attended Markle’s baby shower in New York City last month. Also during Markle’s brief trip across the pond, Spencer was seen sharing meals with Markle around the city.
Spencer attended Markle’s May 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, contributed her lifestyle website The Tig, and spoke to Vanity Fair about Markle’s style and character, according to Town and Country.
“She’s got warm elegance, though her style is hard to pin down. It’s classy and timeless,” Spencer told Vanity Fair. “When you’re talking to her, you feel like you’re the only person on the planet. And it’s just wonderful to see her so in love.”
