Kyra Green from MTV‘s Ex on the Beach hoped that Emily Salch, who she connected with on Love Island, might wash up on the beach so they could re-examine their romance that fell apart. But, she was drawn to David Barta, someone who experienced his own ex drama.

Needless to say, the season gets messier, Green revealed to Showbiz Cheat Sheet. Barta’s ex, Danielle Cohen sent mixed signals, telling him she was fine if he wanted to pursue other interests in the house. But then she was clearly annoyed and jealous when he would. How did Green fit into all of this and did Salch show up?

Why did Kyra hope Emily would show up on ‘Ex on the Beach’?

Green and Salch had unfinished business she wanted to address. “Going in, there were some exes that if they showed up, I was going to be like, no, get me all off of this island, you know?” she said. “But at the same time, there was one person. Her name’s Emily, and we actually met on Love Island and have a lot of history there. So if she shows up, in my mind, I was going to be like, OK, I’m going to give this time, I’m going to give this effort and really see if there’s something there.”

Communication breakdown was the main reason why Green thinks she and Salch broke up. “We both were just always having fun and doing these trips and connecting. But in my mind, I always saw her as never really giving me fully that chance to, you know, go there.”

“And we never really got below surface level in a lot of ways and I wanted to,” she added. “So in this kind of situation where we’re stuck in the same house, stuck in the same environment, this is really the chance to see if there’s something there. Whereas we haven’t really seen that yet. So there’s always that possibility, but I still really didn’t know if that was there or not.”

How did Emily feel about the love triangle with David?

Green connected with Barta before she was given a chance to see if an ex showed up. But that connection came while Barta’s ex made it clear she wasn’t happy. “Initially, I thought that they were done and yeah, I saw [Cohen] as a chill girl on the island that I could be homies with,” she said.

Green thought she and Cohen could be friends. But once it became clear she had a spark with Barta, that friendly vibe with Cohen cooled off. “We both have a very laid back and just chill vibe. So we initially got along, but the more and more as time went on, I feel like communication between me and her and her and David … at some point I was like, ‘Y’all just got to talk between you two because I’m getting different stories and different green lights and red lights.’ At one point it was like, I don’t know where to go from here.”

But she was attracted to Barta and wanted to get to know him. He wasn’t her usual type, but she loved that he was pansexual. “I’ve never been able to relate with a guy like that,” she said. “I’ve dated a lot of girls in some part of the spectrum. But I never dated a guy who was into guys and girls and everything in between. So it was something really exciting. And he’s being open and genuine with me. So I found that very intriguing.”

Emily’s arrival heats up ‘Ex on the Beach’

But her budding romance was interrupted when Salch arrived on Ex on the Beach. “With Emily coming in, it was a whole mix of emotions because she was the ex that I kind of was crossing my fingers, my toes, my everything that she was going to [arrive],” she said.

“I mean, Emily is beautiful,” Green added. “And then she has this fiery personality that pulls you in. So I was very excited. But at the same time, I had made this new connection with someone and I can’t say ‘Bye David,’ you know, whatever to you. But I also want to give Emily my all when she comes in. So it’s just like this sticky situation that you wouldn’t find yourself in real life, ever, you know?”

Salch’s appearance certainly shakes up an already explosive landscape on Ex on the Beach, Green said. “When she comes in, I can’t say it was a chill … anything,” she recalled. “Whether it was good or bad, it definitely was a roller coaster. And I learned a lot about me and Emily’s relationship along with me and David. So it’s definitely a lot to go through. And a lot to watch it on TV. So it’s going to be interesting.”

MTV‘s Ex on the Beach is on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
