Why did ABC remove Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews from ‘Dancing with the Stars?’

ABC and BBC Studios released a statement on Tuesday explaining that they are revamping the show amidst COVID-19 challenges.

“Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family,” the statement read, via Deadline. “As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success.”

Bergeron has hosted over 400 episodes of the long-running show, since 2005. His co-host, Andrews, has been part of the series since 2014 — for 11 seasons.

“Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom,” the statement continued. “Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show.”

The explanation for their removal is that ABC is refreshing the show with the new season.

Many fans are planning to boycott ‘Dancing With The Stars’ after the announcement

“Well, this is the final straw!” one fan tweeted. “DWTS hasn’t been the same in the last few years. The only good things were Tom and Erin. The judges should have been fired before Tom. I will not be watching. I’m done with this show.”

Many fans are complaining that ABC officially killed the show. They don’t feel like it will be the same without longtime host, Bergeron.

“Hey DWTS, without Tom Bergeron, there is no show!” another fan added on Twitter. “Huge error! Why would you gut the heart and soul of the show?? He and Erin were the perfect team!!!”

While fans are outraged, they also want to know who could replace Bergeron and Andrews.

Who is going to host ‘Dancing with the Stars’ instead of Bergeron and Andrews?

Fans have several ideas for who might go on to replace the longtime hosts of Dancing with the Stars.

“If I produced DWTS, I’d hire Victoria Arlen to be one of the show’s new co-hosts,” one fan suggested in a tweet. “She can relate to the contestants as a past participant, plus is extremely inspirational, charismatic, and witty!”

Victoria Arlen currently is a television personality for ESPN. She is an actress, speaker, and model. She competed on Dancing with the Stars Season 25 but placed fifth.

“Will there be two new hosts or no hosts?” another fan asked. “Tom and Erin both brought the charm to the show. Sad to see them go. Will some former pros be returning?”

At this point, ABC and BBC did not announce who will fill the duos shoes.
