Chefs Bobby Flay and Giada De Laurentiis starred in the cooking show Iron Chef America in 2006. The two chefs got paired together to take on Mario Batali and Rachel Ray in the competition. Unfortunately, the two talented chefs lost the contest.

Giada didn’t take the loss lightly, especially after Flay laughed it off. She said in an interview with Beyond the Plate podcast that Flay thought it was funny that they lost. She got offended and stopped talking to him for more than eight months.

She noted that she particularly took offense with Flay’s reaction because she thought that Flay and their rival Mario didn’t take the competition seriously and didn’t care if they lost or won.

She stated that she felt that for Flay, it was just another show he was in, while she and Rachel Ray had put their all in it and thus she was very disappointed.

The two patched things up and have been friends ever since

After their Iron Chef loss, Giada stated that she never received any real apology from Flay, which infuriated her even more. Thankfully the two found common ground and mended fences. She has since talked fondly about their relationship calling Flay a loyal friend.

She noted that Flay always has her back and is one of her good friends to date. De Laurentiis has even been a judge on Flay’s show, Beat Bobby Flay. In 2019, Flay announced that he was single on his show.

De Laurentiis, at the time, was dating Shane Farley, meaning that the two were just friends at the time. They even engage in playful banter in each other’s Instagram posts, and it seems that the two’s feuding days are behind them.

Aside from his impressive cooking skills, Bobby Flay is also known for his larger-than-life attitude and romantic relationships. He and his wife Stephanie March got divorced in 2015 after cheating rumors surfaced. Flay moved on with actress Helene York.

On the other hand, De Laurentiis got divorced from her husband of 11 years, Todd Thompson. At the time of their very public divorce, it was assumed that De Laurentiis had an affair with multiple men, including musician John Mayer and her Iron Chef partner, Bobby Flay.

It was speculated that De Laurentiis’s affairs had been the reason for her split from her husband. However, she slammed those reports stating that she had only met Mayer twice, and her relationship with Flay was purely work-related.

However, fans have started noticing that the two may be more than just friends. According to a Reddit thread, fans have seen that the two superstar chefs share tough-to-beat chemistry on-screen. The fans can’t help but wonder if their onscreen chemistry goes beyond TV.

One user noted that De Laurentiis always seems giggly towards Flay and is always giving him tips and hints to help him win.

While fans would like to see a Food Network romance, the two have always made it clear that they really are just friends and nothing more.
