Actor Chris Evans is best known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But he’s also earned a reputation as someone who keeps their personal life private. Learn what Evans has said about wanting to have children, and why one resurfaced photo makes that crystal clear.

Chris Evans is reportedly dating Lily James

In July 2020, Evans was spotted in London, spending time with British actor Lily James. While Evans called himself single in January 2020, the pair reportedly began seeing one another ahead of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. As of August 24, 2020, the relationship is unconfirmed.

Before James, Evans dated actor Jenny Slate. They met on the set of their film, Gifted, and dated on-and-off for a couple of years before splitting in 2018. Before Slate, Evans was linked to actors Jessica Biel, Minka Kelly, and Christina Ricci earlier in his career.

The MCU has nearly entirely consumed the past decade of Evans’ life. He starred in nine films as Steve Rogers (aka Captain America). Now that his time in the high-profile role has come to an end, he’s looking forward to other personal milestones.

“I really want kids,” Evans told Men’s Journal in an April 2019 interview. “Yeah, I do. I like pretty pedestrian, domestic things. I want a wife, I want kids. I like ceremony. I want to carve pumpkins and decorate Christmas trees and sh*t like that.” He also added that he wants to do so in his home town in Massachusetts.

Evans’ dog gave him a taste of parenthood

Those who follow Evans on social media know of his dog, Dodger. In July 2020, shortly after his life in London, Evans posted that Dodger was having surgery. “If today is any indication, I’m going to be a VERY nervous parent,” he wrote on Instagram. And that isn’t the first time he’s spoken about how Dodger has prepared him for becoming a dad.

“Dogs are just so good and so pure,” he told ET in November 2019. “A weird, little door unlocks inside of you, this new level of empathy…in a weird way, that type of empathy permeates so many aspects of your life… You know, I think it actually unlocks a little bit, as I imagine having children will, I really want kids too.”

Now to the photo in question, which was shared in August 2020 but is from Ace Comic Con Seattle in June 2019. In it, the actor poses with, among others, his Avengers: Infinity War co-star Zoe Saldana. Saldana is holding a baby, while Evans, sitting next to her, is holding the infant’s foot.

“Someone get this man a baby,” replied one Twitter user, along with a gif of Evans holding a different child. And while many others in the replies volunteered, Evans may have found the right woman in James. “Eventually, sharing your life with a family is the most important thing,” she told the Sunday Times Style in January 2019.
