‘First Kill’: Sarah Catherine Hook Says She and Imani Lewis ‘ Had Each Other’s Backs’ During Intimate Scenes

First Kill follows a romance between two members of opposing families. Calliope “Cal” Burns (Imani Lewis) and Juliette Fairmont’s (Sarah Catherine Hook) have intimate scenes together and the actors talked about what it was like to connect and protect each other.

The first season shows Juliette having a crush on a new student named Cal. She finally works up the courage to talk to her and invite her to a party in the first episode.

At the party, they play spin the bottle and the bottle lands on each other. They go into a pantry for alone time because of this and they have a steamy scene. That wouldn’t be the last intimate scene of the season.

The monster-hunter-in-training and young vampire bounce between being adversaries and lovers. Hook talked about struggling at times while filming their more romantic scenes.

How they supported each other for their ‘First Kill’ intimate scenes

Filming an intimate scene could be nerve-wracking. But Hook told The Wrap they made sure each other were comfortable on set.

 “From the beginning, she and I were super open with each other with our communication, especially about the more intimate scenes,” she said. “So we just — it was really nice working with her because I felt like we really had each other’s backs the whole time, making sure that each other were very comfortable with whatever we’re doing. And if we weren’t, then it’s not happening, you know? That sort of thing.”

She then mentioned how Lewis helped her. “There were a few moments where I maybe wasn’t able to speak up for myself, and Imani totally just kind of like stepped in for me,” Hook said. “I don’t know, she really helped me break out of my shell as far as confrontation goes, so that was really helpful and inspiring. And it’s cool to have a partner who cares that much.”

The co-stars also talked to Teen Vogue about their time together. Lewis revealed how they bonded and her favorite moments with Hook.

“We spent so much time even just sitting in silence or just talking regularly, almost like we’re not even on set, talking about things [and] connecting with each other. I think my favorite moments were when it’s real quiet and then I’ll be like, ‘You okay?’” Imani revealed. “[It] just came out of nowhere. It’s just these random check-ins. We’re like, ‘You okay?’ ‘Yeah. I’m okay.’ ‘You sure?’ ‘Yeah.’ ‘Okay. I’ll be right back.’ And I’ll come and get us some LaCroix or something.” It sounds like the actors have a much easier time hanging out together than their characters.
