Even though Friends ended 16 years ago, the beloved sitcom is still finding ways to entertain fans. Through deleted scenes, cast member interviews, and bloopers on YouTube, fans of Friends still have a ton of content to binge to their heart’s content.

In particular, fans have been loving to go back and figure out where they could find little moments that were missed in their first five watch-throughs that may have foreshadowed something later in the show. For example, a deleted scene that may have hinted at Monica and Chandler hooking up in London before it happened.

‘Friends’ is an iconic TV show

Friends hit the air in 1994 starring six soon-to-be household names. It followed roommates Monica (Courteney Cox) and Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), their across-the-hall neighbors Joey (Matt LeBlanc) and Chandler (Matthew Perry), friend Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow), and Monica’s brother Ross (David Schwimmer), as they went about their lives in Manhattan. The sitcom ran from 1994-2004 for a total of 10 seasons and 236 episodes on NBC.

Friends consistently ranked in the top 10 television shows for viewership. The series finale “The Last One” had an astonishing 52.5 million viewers when it aired.

Since then, it was one of Netflix’s most-watched shows until it got removed last year, it’s led to the stars of the show being some of the most famous actors of our age, and it continues to be beloved today.

Monica and Chandler are one of fans’ favorite TV couples

What made Friends so great was its characters; they were always more family than friends. The on-again-off-again relationships throughout the series kept fans coming back each week (ahem… Ross and Rachel), but the wholesomeness of one particular pairing was definitely the 1990s version of “relationship goals.”

Chandler and Monica started the show out having known each other since Ross and Chandler were in college together, while Monica was still in high school. As the years went by, Chandler was always a friend to Monica — until London.

In season 4, the gang (minus a pregnant Phoebe) heads to London for Ross’s wedding to Emily. In their downtime, Monica and Chandler hook up for the first time in his hotel room. They’re together from then on, first keeping their relationship hidden from their friends, and later blossoming into a loving married couple with a family of their own.

Viewers couldn’t have seen Monica and Chandler coming from a mile away. The show never seemed to hint at the two of them pairing up until it happened and shocked fans. But in a deleted scene from season 4 episode 23, fans may have gotten a hint about the impending relations between two of our favorite friends, if it had made it into the episode.

In the deleted scene, we see Joey and Chandler packing their bags in their apartment before the group leaves for London. Chandler turns to Joey and says: “A six-hour trip to London — that’s a lot of Monica.” Joey replies by asking what Chandler has in his hand. Chandler says, “Condoms, dude!” The scene goes on with Joey asking why the writing is in Spanish on the package and Chandler tells him to stop reading his condoms, as he packs them into his bag.

While the short scene seems just like a small off-handed joke about Chandler buying weird condoms, it could easily be taken as foreshadowing Monica and Chandler having sex later in London. We don’t know why the joke was cut out of the final draft during editing, but it could be because they wanted their relationship to be a complete surprise to the fans.
