The late Bob Saget was one of everyone’s favorite TV dads of the ’80s and ’90s. Millions of fans were heartbroken over the news of his death. Although he had an amazing career as a stand-up comedian, he was best known for his role as Danny Tanner in the sitcom Full House. Saget played a widower with three young daughters, portrayed by Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen

Sweetin played adorable middle child Stephanie. She was already a talented actor when she landed the role at only five years old. Saget himself later recognized her abilities while chatting on his podcast.

Saget and Sweetin were close both on and off-screen. After all, Sweetin practically grew up in front of the camera, and Saget was an essential part of her childhood. The two worked well together, and even after the show ended, they never lost touch. Saget went so far as to say that Sweetin brought out his “paternal” instincts, especially since, in real life, he had a daughter who was only two years younger.

The actor looked back fondly in an episode of his podcast Bob Saget Is Here For You. “When Jodie Sweetin was 9-years-old, my daughter Aubrey was 7, and so they would play together, and Jodie slept over at the house.”

Saget had a wonderful first impression of Sweetin

Acting is a tough job for anyone, and Sweetin nailed it at an extremely young age. It wasn’t only her cute personality that won everyone over from the beginning. She had a natural talent for performing.

Even after three decades, Saget recalled just how talented she was. “You remembered my lines [and] your lines,” he noted. “I was so impressed by you the minute I met you,” he added. Talk about a fantastic compliment to receive from someone as talented as Saget himself. Chances are, Sweetin will never forget his kind words.

How did Sweetin pay tribute to Saget after his death?

Full House ended in 1995. But Sweetin and Saget didn’t part ways. They remained close since the show’s finale, reuniting years later to reprise their roles in the spinoff, Fuller House. This time, Sweetin played the adult raising a child. Stephanie even named her daughter Danielle (or Dani) after her grandfather (Saget’s character).

After the news broke that Saget had died suddenly at 65, Sweetin remembered how “wonderful” he was. “He was a genuinely kind spirit,” she wrote in an Instagram post, noting he “was most happy when he was helping others. “He gave great hugs too,” she added.

Sweetin wrote she often told Saget he was “the best TV dad ever.” She even quoted her characters’ catchphrase: “You were supposed to be here longer,” she wrote, adding, “How rude.” It’s hard to say, but we’re willing to bet he would have loved her tribute.
