When it comes to the quintessential American TV sitcom dad, Bob Saget comes to mind. The actor played Danny Tanner on the belioved ABC sitcom, Full House for years and he later reprised his role in Netflix’s Fuller House. In addition to being one of America’s most beloved dads, the actor also hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos for years.

Though the original Full House ended in 1995 after nearly 200 episodes, Saget has remained very close to his TV family. While Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been retired from acting for years, Saget revealed that he is still very close with the fashion designers.

It seems that they helped him get through some really challenging times in his life.

Bob Saget portrayed Danny Tanner on ‘Full House’ and ‘Fuller House’

When Full House debuted on ABC in 1987, it was immediately a sensation. On the show, Saget portayed Danny Tanner, a young widower trying to raise his three daughters in San Franciso, following the death of his beloved wife.

In the series, his late wife’s brother, Jessie (John Stamos), and his best friend Joey (Dave Coulier) move in to help Danny raise DJ (Candace Cameron Bure), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen).

Over the years and across the seasons, the men dealt with all kinds of parenting struggles, including homework, tantrums, dating, and everything else in between. Everyone from the original series except for the Olsen twins reprised their roles at some point on Fuller House as well.

Bob Saget has been very close with Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen since they were babies

When you portray someone’s TV dad for eight years, it’s only natural that you form a close bond with them. Since the Olsen twins were just little babies when Full House debuted, they will be connected to Saget for life.

Though he played the loving, but super neat-freak dad on the small-screen, Saget, was also a father figure for his TV daughters on set. Though the Olsens took turns playing Michelle due to child labor laws, there were still two little babies hanging around the set for years.

According to Ranker, Saget often took on diaper duty as a result.

Bob Saget says Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have been there for him in a ‘big way’ over the years

Over the years, Saget’s relationships with all four of the actors that portrayed his TV daughters has evolved. “I’m very close with Candace, always was since we did the pilot,” Saget revealed on the Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum podcast “Jodie used to sleep over at my house and play with my daughter Aubrey, my oldest.”

He continued, “Ashley and Mary-Kate. I love so much. When I’m in New York or when they’re here, when we can, we see each other.”

Though they once played his daughters, it looks like all of the actors, including the Olsens, have become more like friends to Saget over the years. He explained,

They’re all friends, it’s not like they’re kids. But Jodie was probably more like a kid to me. Ashley and Mary-Kate are more like friends because I kind of got the whole thing of everything they’re about. Candace is a friend. They’ve all been there for me in a big way when I’ve gone through hard stuff.
