A full house at the previous property at 10050 Cielo Drive spelled tragedy. Now the term holds a different meaning. Full House creator Jeff Franklin recently listed his Beverly Hills mansion for sale for $85 million. Located where the famous Manson murders took place, Franklin bought the property in 2007 but moved to Miami.

‘Full House’ creator Jeff Franklin bought the property before the mansion was complete

In 2007, when Franklin first purchased the property, known as “The Cielo Estate,” the mansion itself wasn’t finished. According to The New York Post, architect Richard Landry designed the home, including 21,000 square feet of living space, nine bedrooms, and 18 bathrooms.

Franklin recently hosted the reception for Bob Saget after the late comedian’s funeral on Friday, Jan. 14, according to ExtraHowever, Franklin no longer lives in the mansion. He relocated to Miami in 2021.

Sharon Tate and several others were murdered at the address by Charles Manson

In 1969 Tex Watson, Susan Atkins, and Patricia Krenwinkel, all followers of Charles Manson, broke into the house upon his orders and murdered actor Sharon Tate, Folger Coffee heir Abigail Folger, celebrity hairstylist Jay Sebring, Steven Parent, and Wojciech Frykowski. Tate, married to director Roman Polanski and best known for her role in Valley of the Dolls, was more than eight months pregnant. Polanski lived overseas at the time, but Frykowski, a close friend, stayed with Tate with Polanski away.

Trent Reznor, the lead singer of Nine Inch Nails, rented the house in 1992 and set up his recording studio there despite its sordid past. He was the last person to live in the actual house where the murders occurred. However, he moved out in December 1993 after claiming “the house has too much history for me to handle.”

A few years later, owners demolished the house Tate lived in and built a new one in its place. However, when Franklin purchased the home, he wasn’t satisfied with the design. Speaking to Architectural Digest in 2010, he said, “What I fell in love with here was the setting, the view, the privacy, and the amount of flat land. But the existing house was probably the most poorly conceived structure I’d ever been inside of.”

‘Full House’ creator Jeff Franklin hired architect Richard Landry to create the home he wanted

The Full House creator had a tall order for what he wanted in a home. He wanted to incorporate inspiration from several areas he visited in the past.

“It was important to me that the house in general have a warmth and coziness that isn’t very common in houses this size,” he explained to Architectural Digest.

“I really wanted to use fire, water, earth, stone and wood—to feel like the elements were all present here. I’d spent the last 10 years traveling around the world, so part of the marching order was to take Japan and China and Bali and Thailand—those influences—and work them into the house. At the same time I love tropical islands and wanted to feel like I was in the islands when I was home. And of course I live a very contemporary California lifestyle, so it had to be a house where you weren’t scared you were going to break something or spill something and never be invited back. The last influence was scuba diving. I love the ocean, and I wanted marine life around me.”

Now, Franklin lives in Miami, and the famous property is for sale once more.
