For years, viewers watched Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen perform in front of a live studio audience on Full House. Decades later, their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, revealed that the Olsen twins weren’t exactly fans of that particular format.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen starred in ‘Full House’

The Olsen twins began acting at the tender age of six months old. They were cast as Michelle Tanner in the ABC sitcom Full House, which premiered in 1987. A pair of twins typically share baby roles on TV shows. However, as they aged, both actors continued to play Michelle through the series finale in 1995.

Meanwhile, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen grew their own empire. Under the banner Dualstar Entertainment, they released direct-to-video shorts like The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley along with feature films such as It Takes Two. The Olsen twins also starred in the short-lived TV series Two of a Kind and So Little Time.

They later quit acting to focus on fashion

After their final theatrical release together, 2004’s New York Minute, Ashley Olsen quit acting. Mary-Kate Olsen continued to act for several years, appearing in films such as Factory Girl and Beastly, and in a recurring role in the popular TV series Weeds. But she soon stopped as well.

In the later years of their acting careers, the Olsen twins began to focus more on their fashion empire. They started a line of teen clothing at Wal-Mart, but later entered the world of upscale fashion. Their award-winning label, The Row, has brought them lots of attention and praise over the years.

Their sister, Elizabeth Olsen, became an actor, too

As the Olsen twins left show business, their younger sister entered it. Elizabeth Olsen grew up in Hollywood but went to New York University to study theater after high school. She began performing on stage but quickly made her way into film, breaking out as the star of Martha Marcy May Marlene.

From there, Olsen became a bonafide hit, just like her sisters. She won the role of Wanda Maximoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Olsen is also known for her role in the Facebook Watch series Sorry for Your Loss and movies like Godzilla.

Elizabeth Olsen Had an Alternate Career Plan if Acting Didn’t Work Out

Elizabeth Olsen’s path to fame wasn’t all that similar to the Olsen twins’. “I loved musical theater,” she said in 2021 on Sirius XM. “Musical theater and doing plays became a really identifying quality of my grade that I went through elementary school with.”

This was different than Mary-Kate and Ashley. “My sisters didn’t love being in live theater,” Olsen continued. “They didn’t love live audiences. They were pretty shy, and it made them nervous. I was the one that made everyone come see me perform [in] a musical.”
