‘General Hospital’: Fans Are Loving the New Trina
General Hospital has undergone many casting changes in 2022, including the recast of Trina Robinson. Tabyana Ali took over the role, replacing Sydney Mikayla. Ali made her debut on March 25th, one week after Mikayla’s final appearance. So how are fans reacting to Ali as the new Trina?

Recasts are a common occurrence at General Hospital; many beloved characters have been played by various actors. When news broke about the soap opera recasting Trina, it generated a lot of buzz. As the daughter of Portia Robinson (Brooke Kerr) and Marcus Taggert (Réal Andrews), she’s an integral part of the show.
After Mikayla left to focus on college, the producers quickly found a replacement. Ali has only played Trina for a week, but viewers already love her. On a Reddit thread, fans applauded her performance.
“Tabyana has made a smooth transition into the role of Trina,” wrote one viewer.
“Agree. I’m always resistant to change, but she feels believable where as other recasts have not,” another fan replied.
“She has great chemistry with everyone. Good job all the way around,” another commenter chimed in.
Tabyana Ali auditioned for the role years earlier
General Hospital fans are pretty much in agreement that Ali makes a great Trina. If luck had been on her side years earlier, she might have already had the role. In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, the actor revealed that she auditioned to play Trina three years ago.
“The audition process for Trina was really exciting for me because it was the second time General Hospital called me. The first time was about three years ago, and I actually went out for Trina. It came down to me, Sydney, and I believe one or two other girls.”
Sydney got cast as Trina, but producers immediately reached out to Ali for an audition when she left. Ali watched many Trina scenes, and her family, loyal soap fans, filled her in on the character’s current storyline. Although the actor was prepared, she still experienced jitters on her first day of filming.
“I think I put a lot of pressure and a lot of stress on myself. It was such a new environment for me. Walking in, I was like, ‘Oh, goodness, what have I gotten myself into?’”
Trina Robinson is currently on trial
Ali’s debut came at a crucial time for Trina on General Hospital. The young woman is in legal trouble after Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) framed her for leaking Joss Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Cameron Webber’s (William Lipton) sex tape. Trina pleaded not guilty; however, the overwhelming evidence may get her sent to prison.
Trina has the support of Joss and Cameron, who don’t believe their friend is responsible for the crime. However, Trina’s boyfriend, Spencer Cassadine (Nicholas Chavez), doubts her innocence. After Spencer voiced his suspicions, Trina broke up with him.
As Trina prepares for her trial, Esme roams around free and inserts herself into Spencer’s life. However, Esme is exposed as the sex tape leaker, Trina will be set free, and Spencer will have to owe her a big apology.
