Dante Falconeri’s story during the last time we saw him

After leaving the show for the first time, Zamprogna returned for a special episode in 2018 for his character’s father, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). The actor then returned again for several episodes that aired in March 2019.

The most recent return saw his father helped him find the man who shot his wife, Lulu Spencer. Falconeri ended up killing the man, named Raj Patel, in self-defense. He reunited with Spencer and his kids but he had started suffering from PTSD from everything that happened. He left town to protect Spencer and the children.

What Dominic Zamprogna said not that long ago about returning to the show

Zamprogna first told Soaps in Depth back in May that he was interested in returning to the show as a main cast member. Frank [Valentini] knows I am ready to come home,” he said in part. “And I’d be totally open to a contract. There’s so much potential with the character and the story right now. With everything they’ve done since Dante’s been gone, there are so many options, and they’d all be fun to play.”

In a more recent interview with Michael Fairman TV about a separate new project that he had coming out, Zamprogna went into more detail about missing the show. He revealed that he’s had feelings about coming back to the show for “a long time.” A new thing he revealed was that he left the show at a time when he was questioning his instincts as an actor.

He explained, “You only ever want to leave because of your situation, and personally, I was going through some things, and the one thing that I have relied on for my whole career is my confidence and my instinct. The minute you start questioning either of those things, you’ve got to take a step back.  That’s what I was doing.  I’ve never had a job for as long as I had GH, and I went through a whole gamut of feelings. There are highs and lows and in-betweens.  There were too many instances where for whatever reason; I wasn’t feeling confident in my abilities anymore.”

Here’s what we know about the return

The soap opera website Daytime Confidential was the first outlet to break the news of Zamprogna’s return to the show. The site reports, “In story, Dante has been suffering from PTSD off-screen following a WSB mission. Look for his return to complicate ex-wife Lulu’s (Emme Rylan) romance with Dustin Phillips (Mark Lawson).” The report does not state if this is expected to be a short stay or if Zamprogna is back for the long haul.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
