After the success of Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito has become one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. While his role as Gus Fring wasn’t his breakout role, it did revitalize his career, much like how Breaking Bad revitalized Bryan Cranston’s career.

Thanks to this role, he’s been cast in many big productions, one of the most recent being Disney+’s The Mandalorian. However, Esposito is also dipping his fingers into superhero territory, as he had a small role in the Amazon Prime show, The Boys.

With that said, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would be the next big step for him, and here’s who he can show up as.

A recap of Giancarlo Esposito’s early career

Before he became the most menacing villain on TV, Esposito’s career was actually more comedic than not. His breakout role was when he worked with Spike Lee on School Daze, and the two ended up making more movies with each other.

The most popular of those films was Do the Right Thing, and since then, Esposito’s career has been on the up-and-up.

While his movies with Lee were some of his best work, he also got plenty of work in other productions. For example, he had a big comedic part in Jim Jarmusch’s 1991 film Night on Earth, and he’s also acted in many TV shows, including the likes of Miami Vice, Chicago Hope, and Law & Order

Giancarlo Esposito’s career as the villain

His career never really slowed down, but he, like many celebs, fell out of the limelight eventually. That was until he was cast as Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, and in just 24 episodes, he shook American audiences to their core with his thrilling performance as the main villain of the show. That said, his acting on Breaking Bad may have been too good since nowadays, he often shows up as the villain.

This is what’s happening with his character in The Mandalorian. Like Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, Esposito’s character on The Mandalorian is the big villain that the main characters will have to work hard to deal with. More recently, he got cast for a role in an upcoming video game, Far Cry 6, and once again, he plays the main villain in the game.

Esposito doesn’t need to play the villain, as his early comedic works show, but it’s clear that he’s just really good at being the bad guy. As a result, many fans think that he’ll be a great MCU villain, if he ends up joining the franchise that is.

As fans on Reddit said, not only has he expressed a desire to join the MCU, but his great acting chops would mean that he could play a lot of roles if Marvel wants to offer them to him. That said, Marvel usually has two types of villains, the ones that show up for one movie and go away, and the ones, like Thanos, who stick around and is a big threat to everyone else for a long time.

Due to his acting skills, he really can play both types of villains. However, many Marvel fans are sick of famous actors playing a villain who just goes away after one movie, so most fans think that he’ll be a great long-term villain. That’s why many MCU fans want him to play characters like Norman Osborn, AKA the Green Goblin, Dr. Doom, and even Magneto.

That said, some fans feel bad about Esposito getting cast as the villain in almost everything he does nowadays. As a result, some fans actually want to see him as a superhero rather than as a supervillain. But of course, since it’s Marvel, the possibilities are endless with the characters that he could play.
