Yes, Gilmore Girls had plenty of memorable moments. But there were also some pretty forgettable ones. Between the iconic lines — “I smell snow” and “I love you, you idiot!” — and series-defining scenes — Lorelai Gilmore’s first kiss with Luke Danes, Rory Gilmore’s high school graduation, Max Medina’s proposal — were some storylines that didn’t necessarily make a lasting impression. Without further ado, here are some of Gilmore Girls’ most forgettable storylines.

When Lorelai Gilmore dated Alex Lesman

Some fans of Gilmore Girls might respond with “Alex who?” at the mention of the name Alex Lesman. Played by Twilight’s Billy Burke, the actor had a brief stint on Gilmore Girls in 2003. He played Alex, a man Lorelai (Lauren Graham) met while attending a seminar with her best friend and business partner, Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy), in season 3.

Alex and Lorelai hit it off. And it wasn’t long — a matter of seconds — before the witty banter ensued. Their first date? Lorelai and Alex did a coffee tasting. Later they went fishing together after Lorelai mentioned it was one of her hobbies. The problem? She didn’t like or know how to fish.

Compared to the other men Lorelai seriously dated — Max (Scott Cohen), Rory’s dad Christopher Hayden (David Sutcliffe), Jason Stiles (Chris Eigeman), and Luke — Alex was a blip on the radar. However, that’s likely due in large part to the character not being a significant love interest. His character wasn’t as integrated in Lorelai’s world as her other love interests were.

Burke made his first appearance on Gilmore Girls in the episode titled “I Solemnly Swear,” according to his acting credits on IMDb. He returned in the following episode, “Lorelai Out of Water,” before making his final appearance in “Swan Song.”

While Rory was advised by a professor to drop a class at Yale in Gilmore Girls Season 4 Episode 14: “The Incredible Sinking Lorelais,” Lorelai cried as she told Luke about her plans to ask him for a $30,000 loan. Sitting on a bench in the fictional town of Stars Hollow, Connecticut, Luke comforted a tearful Lorelai as she explained the inn renovations weren’t going as planned.

Luke’s response? “Well, OK.” In the following episode, Lorelai was back to her normal self sitting at Luke’s Diner when Luke passed her a check. He considered it an investment, they had exchanged a few jokes, Lorelai offered her sincere thanks, and that was it. Lorelai and Sookie went on to open the Dragonfly Inn.

Another small storyline in the series overall, Luke giving Lorelai money wasn’t mentioned much after that. However, it did raise some questions. Was Luke secretly rich? How much money did he make as a small business owner in a tiny Connecticut town?

These are just some of the forgotten storylines from Gilmore Girls’ seven seasons. See each of the aforementioned storylines play out on the TV series by streaming Gilmore Girls on Netflix.
