The pilot episode of Gilmore Girls showed Rory (Alexis Bledel) was accepted to Chilton prep school. Her mother, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), knew she couldn’t afford the school on her own, so she asked her parents Emily (Kelly Bishop) and Richard (Edward Herrmann) for help.

Dean attended Rory’s public school. He accidentally scares her in the hallway, but she notices him when she gets her reference to Rosemary’s Baby. Dean recently moved from Chicago, and Rory helps him look for a job. She starts to have a crush and even reconsiders going to Chilton because of it. But in the end, she attends Chilton, and she has her first relationship with Dean.

Rory goes on to have more relationships, but some fans are still Team Dean. The actor’s last episode on the show was in season 5. Padalecki went on to play Sam Winchester on Supernatural. But he did return to Gilmore Girls for the Netflix revival in 2016. A lot has changed since then and Padalecki has a sense of humor about it.

Jared Padalecki admits he was trying to hide something in season 5

Fans are celebrating that it’s been 21 years since Gilmore Girls premiered. One fan shared pictures of Dean talking to Rory in season 5.

The person wrote, “21 years ago today, Dean Forester introduced himself to  us @jarpad” in the tweet. “I was trying to flex and look strong. AND, I was trying (for 20 years) to grow facial hair. Thought I was able to hide it, but, in hindsight, it seems pretty obvious,” Padalecki wrote in response to the tweet.

“Wait you were trying to grow facial hair? I thought they made that decision to make Dean look sad because he was making one bad life decision after another,” one fan asked. “I think we’re saying the same thing here,” Padalecki tweeted.

Padalecki also apologized for his looks in the first episode

Netflix also tweeted pictures from the first episode with, “Gilmore Girls premiered 21 years ago today introducing us to one of the greatest mother-daughter duos in television history, blessing us with endlessly quotable dialogue, and making generations long to live in the quaint yet wildly quirky Stars Hollow.”

Padalecki also responded to that with, “Sorry about the teeth…And the forehead… (“five”-head?..?) Glad I grew into those.”

Padalecki was around 18 years old when the first episode aired, so a lot has changed since then. Either way, he has a sense of humor about how different he looked back then. Gilmore Girls is now streaming on Netflix.
