In Gilmore Girls, everyone knows that Luke Danes (Scott Patterson) is the best match for Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham). However, many Gilmore Girls fans still debate on whether Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki), Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia), or Logan Huntzberger (Matt Czuchry) is the better choice for Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel).

In Season 4 of Gilmore Girls, Dean gets married to Lindsay Lister (Arielle Kebbel) even though he is still in love with Rory. Luke finds out about Dean’s real feelings the night before the wedding, so should Luke have stopped the wedding?

Rory and Dean broke up in Season 3 of ‘Gilmore Girls’

Rory and Dean begin dating in the first season of Gilmore Girls. In the second season, Rory meets Jess, Luke’s nephew, and begins to fall for him. She denies her crush on Jess and continues to date Dean.

Midway through the third season, Dean breaks up with Rory because of her feelings for Jess. Rory starts a relationship with Jess, and Dean begins to date Lindsay.

While Jess and Rory break up at the end of Season 3 of Gilmore Girls, Dean goes on to announce that he and Lindsay are engaged. Because her relationship with the rebellious Jess did not work out, Rory misses the comfort of Dean and is initially thrown by this news.

Luke finds out Dean still has feelings for Rory

At the start of the fourth season, Rory begins school at Yale University. Season 4 Episode 4 of Gilmore Girls is titled “Chicken or Beef?” In the episode, Rory decides to take a weekend trip home in Stars Hollow and realizes it is the weekend of Dean’s wedding.

When she runs into Dean he invites her to the wedding, and Rory and Lorelai debate on whether or not they should attend. The night of his bachelor party, Dean gets drunk and Luke ends up taking care of him.

While Luke is watching over him, Dean professes his love for Rory. The next morning, Luke does not tell Dean about what he said while drunk. Instead, he finds Rory and lets her know that she should not attend the wedding.

Fans of ‘Gilmore Girls’ think Luke made the right choice

As fans of Gilmore Girls know, Rory and Dean end up having an affair while he is still married, and this leads to the end of his marriage with Lindsay.

One might wonder why Luke did not just ask Dean about his feelings for Rory. If he had, perhaps Dean would not have gone through with the wedding and spared Lindsay the heartache.

“… Luke and Dean have barely interacted at this point, if at all, he probably saw this as not his place. He would definitely have been crossing a line interfering in that way…,” a Reddit user wrote.

One fan wrote on Reddit, “I could see other characters maybe saying to Dean, ‘Are you sure you’re ready for this?’, but it just doesn’t fit in with Luke’s personality. Also, trying to talk someone out of making a huge mistake rarely works…”

Because Luke was not close with Dean and Dean was an adult at the time, one can assume that Luke felt it was simply not his business. Instead, he went to Rory, someone he had a closer relationship with.
