Not every Gilmore Girls fan loved Rory Gilmore’s college love interest. Logan Huntzberger has just as many haters as he has fans. While fans who are on team Logan can point out all of his good qualities, even his supporters can admit that the start of the couple’s courtship was a bit odd. Given their families’ social connections, Logan should have known who Rory was from the start. Did he have no clue who she was related to, or was Logan playing it off?

Logan Huntzberger acted like he had no idea who Rory Gilmore was when he met her

Rory Gilmore’s friend, Marty, was the first person to formally introduce Rory to Logan. Marty and Rory bumped into Logan and his friends on the first day of their sophomore year at Yale. Rory ran into Logan a second time in the hallway of her dorm. Both times, Logan acted like he had no clue who Rory was, and Rory largely hated Logan.

Logan and Rory’s relationship only began when they started working together on the newspaper. By that point, Logan had learned Rory’s first name, but he never let on that he knew who she was in the larger sense. Here’s the thing though; Logan should have known exactly who she was the second he learned her last name.

The Huntzbergers and the Gilmores were well-known to each other

While their initial meetings were rocky, some Gilmore Girls fans are convinced it was all an act. In short, Logan Huntzberger likely knew who Rory was long before she ever knew who he was. In fact, it seems nearly impossible that their paths hadn’t crossed, at least briefly, at some point.

The Gilmores and the Huntzbergers were well acquainted with each other. Richard Gilmore and Mitchum Huntzberger were friends. They were close enough to be invited to the same parties. Emily Gilmore and Shira Huntzberger ran in the same social circle, too. Shira knew plenty about Lorelai and, by extension, Rory, too. She had a pretty good idea of exactly who Rory was before Logan brought her to dinner.

Did Logan really have no clue, or was he just playing it cool?

Rory was pretty far removed from her grandparents’ social life for most of her formative years. Even once she enrolled at Chilton, she was kept away from most of their social events. It makes perfect sense that Rory wouldn’t have any clue who Logan Huntzberger was at first glance, but it makes no sense that Logan wouldn’t have, at the very least, known of her. Logan was very involved in his parents’ social world and knew Richard Gilmore well enough to be on a first-name basis.

Logan never let on that he knew who she was until the party Richard and Emily threw for her. Fans aren’t entirely convinced, though. While it could just be a plothole, some fans think Logan was purposefully manipulating the situation and trying to play it cool. Either way, it largely worked out. At the very least, it could have been a great “meet cute” story if the duo had gotten married.
