The rise of streaming services, like Netflix, has given shows like Gilmore Girls new life. Since being added to the Netflix catalog, the early 2000s series about a mother and daughter making it work in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, has gained a massive new following. The new fans have come up with some seriously impressive Gilmore Girls fan theories. Two of those fan theories rely on serious car accidents to change how you look at the show.

One fan thinks Rory Gilmore died in season 1 of Gilmore Girls

One fan has a wild theory that Rory Gilmore never lived past season 1, episode 4. In “Deer Hunter,” Rory struggles to adjust to the far more rigorous academics of Chilton. One important test leads to a massive cram session and an extremely late wake-up. Knowing that taking the bus will never get her to school on time, Rory and Lorelai decide to let her drive to school. On the way there, she hits a deer. Rory eventually figures out life at Chilton and becomes the valedictorian, and the deer is never mentioned again.

One Reddit user theorizes that Rory died in the deer accident and that the entire series takes place in the afterlife. Another fan has a similar theory, but one that is a bit more complicated. According to that viewer, the entirety of Gilmore Girls is the final moments of Rory’s life, where she envisions how life would have been if only she weren’t dying in an automobile accident. It’s a pretty morbid theory and completely unlikely to be true, but interesting, nonetheless.

Another Gilmore Girls fan theory revolves around Lorelai being in a coma

Fans were excited to learn that Gilmore Girls was getting a reboot in 2016. The Netflix original special, however, didn’t live up to expectations. In fact, the four-part special is largely criticized by fans who found the characters unbelievable and the storyline convoluted. One user has a theory as to why things in Stars Hollow seemed so different in 2016.

According to the theory, the entirety of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life takes place while Lorelai is in a coma. The theory suggests that the four-part special is a dream Lorelai is having. How did she land in the coma? According to the original author, a car accident involving a tree left her severely injured. Fans largely rejected the theory, but it would go a long way in explaining some of the stranger elements of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

Will the series return for another revival?

While fans largely hated the initial revival, most would be happy to welcome Rory and Lorelai Gilmore back into their homes one more time. After all, Amy-Sherman Palladino, the series’s creator, left fans hanging with the final four words. Five years later, they still don’t officially know who the father of Rory’s baby is, but most have a theory. Still, it would be nice to give fans some closure.

So, is it going to happen? Apparently, most of the people who need to be into the idea have expressed interest. Lauren Graham, who portrayed Lorelai, would be interested in returning. Sherman-Palladino has said she is open to the idea, and Keiko Agena, who played Lane Kim for all seven seasons, is also interested in reprising her role. No official announcement has been made, though.
