Two surprise pregnancy announcements have been dropped on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy in the first four episodes of season 16. Both Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) unexpectedly found themselves pregnant.

Many times when actresses are pregnant in real life, producers write the pregnancy into the script. Could this be the case with Scorsone this season? Let’s take a closer look to find out if the Private Practice star might be pregnant in real life.

Caterina Scorsone already has two children

The Grey’s Anatomy star has a seven-year-old girl and a two-year-old girl with husband, Rob Giles. She frequently posts about Eliza and little sister, Paloma on Instagram. The girls often stop by the set of Grey’s Anatomy while mommy is working.

Paloma, who is nicknamed Pippa, has Down Syndrome. Scorsone wants to help people understand that it is not a disadvantage to have a disability.

She recently told WebMD, “I want to help people expand their understanding of what it is to love a person who isn’t “typical” or who is living with a disability. Down syndrome is a genetic variation, and there are lots of genetic variations. There isn’t one particular way that a person should be to have value. Life with Pippa is one of the richest gifts our family has ever received.”

When you look at Scoresone’s social media account, it’s evident that the family is full of love. Do they have room for one more?

Scorsone was pregnant in real life while Amelia was expecting on ‘Private Practice’

Giles and Scorsone announced their first pregnancy the same day as Amelia Shepherd on Private Practice. Scorsone believes that Shonda Rhimes was excited to add the pregnancy into the storyline.

The star told People that Rhimes was surprised because “The news came out of left field and I think she decided she could use this for dramatic purposes. As an actress it never feels like right time. But once we knew what was happening, we were like, ‘This is perfect.’”

The couple’s second pregnancy was not written into the storyline on Grey’s Anatomy

Could Scorsone be pregnant in real life in season 16 of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Shonda Rhimes frequently writes in pregnancies into the storyline of her shows. Not only did she do this for Scorsone already, but she also wrote Chandra Wilson’s pregnancy into Grey’s Anatomy in season 2.

Scorsone’s children are still young, so a two to three year age gap between their second and third child seems like good timing. Rhimes also is very supportive of actors and actresses having their children on set so it would not interfere with the star’s career.

The only reason we are not so sure that Scorsone is pregnant in real life is that she has not announced it to the public yet. When she was expecting in Private Practice, she made the announcement the same day as her character. She is very open on her Instagram account, so we are hoping something will pop up there soon.

You can catch new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC Thursdays at 8 p.m. eastern.
