Over the past two seasons, Grey’s Anatomy has treated fans with multiple returning characters. But a few have yet to appear, including the beloved Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw). Then recently, Camilla Luddington, who plays Jo Wilson, shared the perfect fan theory that could bring Arizona back in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 – here’s what the actor said.

Ahead of the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premiere, many fans were buzzing about the return of Addison Mongtomery (Kate Walsh). Then in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Luddington was asked who else she would like to see back at Grey Sloan, and the actor brought up Arizona.

“I was speaking to Capshaw yesterday, and I would love to see Arizona come back,” Luddington said. “I just adore her, and I think the character is amazing. Jessica is amazing.”

The Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 star also proposed a theory about Jo and Arizona, reminding fans that her character just became an OB/GYN resident at Grey Sloan. So she could learn a thing or two from the fetal and pediatric surgeon.

“I would love for her to come back and work with Jo now that Jo’s OB,” Luddigton said.

What happened to Arizona Robbins and why did the character leave ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

Now, it’s been a hot minute since Grey’s Anatomy fans last saw Capshaw play Arizona. In season 14, the character left Seattle for New York City.

At the time, Arizona noticed that her daughter, Sophia, wasn’t adjusting to bicoastal living. So when Nicole Herman (Geena Davis) presented an opportunity to start a women’s health center, Arizona decided to move to the Big Apple.

New York is also where Grey’s Anatomy left Arizona’s ex-wife, Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez). Back in season 12, Callie moved out of Seattle to be with Penny Blake (Samantha Sloyan). However, the two broke up. Then when Arizona left in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 14 finale, she hinted that she might get back together with Callie in NYC.

Would Jessica Capshaw and Sara Ramirez ever return as Arizona Robbins and Callie Torres on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’?

For now, Grey’s Anatomy fans will have to wait and see whether the Shondaland series ever gives an update on Arizona and Callie, much less season 18. But it seems like Capshaw still views the medical drama in a favorable light.

In an interview with Metro from 2020, the publication asked the actor whether she’d ever come back. Then Capshaw replied, “I feel like that was my home for so long but I don’t watch the show much so I’m not sure how it would be done. It was such an incredible role and an incredible privilege. … I loved being part of it.”

Meanwhile, Ramirez recently confirmed that they would be open to returning as Callie in Grey’s Anatomy

“I wouldn’t be who I am today without the experience I had on Grey’s Anatomy, and my heart is completely open to going back and checking in with Dr. Callie Torres,” Ramirez told People in December 2021. “But that would only happen if the writers’ room and the story really organically led them to need a character like Callie to come back.”
