This ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Character’s Appearance on ‘This Is Us’ Gave Fans’ Chills’
A former Grey’s Anatomy character appeared on This Is Us in February 2021, and it left viewers with “chills.” The actor was on Grey’s Anatomy in season 6 during the traumatic shooting in the hospital. When he appeared on This Is Us outside of a hospital, worried about his wife, fans were petrified of what might happen.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ characters were injured and died during the season 6 finale
In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 6 finale, a former patient’s husband, Gary Clark (Michael O’Neill), entered the hospital with a gun. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) operated on Gary’s wife of 32 years, Alison Clark, during a previous episode. However, there were complications with the surgery, and his wife ended up on life support. Her advanced directive stated that she wanted to be removed from the machines if they were the only thing keeping her alive. However, Gary disagreed that his wife would like that and filed a lawsuit against the hospital.
Still distraught after losing the lawsuit, Gary entered the hospital determined to kill Derek and any other surgeon he met along the way. He shot and killed Dr. Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner), Dr. Charles Percy (Robert Baker), and a nurse named Vivian (Ingrid Walters). Then Gary finally found and wounded Derek. He also shot Dr. Alex Karev, but both men eventually recovered. With his last bullet, Gary shot and killed himself. Although he was no longer one of the Grey’s Anatomy characters, fans would never forget him.
This former Grey’s Anatomy’s cast member appeared on ‘This Is Us’
In the Feb. 16, 2021, episode of This Is Us, Michael O’Neill made another appearance outside of a hospital. While Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) was inside the hospital waiting for their adopted baby to be born, her husband Toby (Chris Sullivan) waited in the parking lot. He couldn’t stay inside the hospital because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While tailgating his second child’s birth, he had an altercation with a man named Arlo (O’Neill). The stranger was upset because Toby was in his parking spot. Arlo’s wife of 55 years, Rose, was inside the hospital being treated for COVID-19. Every night Arlo parks in spot number 157 because of his superstitious wife.
After hearing the story, Toby gave the man his parking spot. The stranger exchanged a few stories with Toby while they waited for news of their loved ones inside.
The ‘This Is Us’ character crossover with ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ gave fans’ chills’
Grey’s Anatomy fans were terrified when they saw O’Neill on This Is Us. His new character’s story was similar to that of his character on Grey’s Anatomy.
“He was so convincing on Grey’s,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I haven’t seen that episode in years; I still was majorly anxious when I saw him.”
Other fans added that he has terrible luck with his wives. Many viewers worried that O’Neill might shoot Toby over the parking spot.
“I swear I got chills just seeing him,” added another Redditor.
Luckily, the stranger’s wife pulled through and was taken off of a ventilator. Fans rejoiced when O’Neill played a good guy instead of a bad guy on This Is Us. Plus, Toby and Kate’s potential adoptive mother gave them Hailey Rose. Toby chose the baby’s middle name, “Rose,” after the stranger’s wife.
