Per usual, Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t been holding back, and fans can’t get enough of the show’s newest season.

The 17th season of Grey’s Anatomy has given viewers an all-too-real version of what hospitals have been up against throughout the global pandemic. Meredith Grey, the show’s beloved main character, has spent the better part of the season fighting for her life due to COVID-19. On top of that, Doctor Andrew DeLuca suffered an unexpected and tragic death. All of the characters have been grappling how to survive during these unprecedented times while trying their best to navigate personal matters as well.

Kim Raver‘s character and storyline has been front-and-center the past two seasons, and though it has been a rocky road, fans and viewers of Grey’s Anatomy are now praising her for one of the season’s most heartfelt episodes.

Raver first joined the cast of Grey’s Anatomy during season 6. Her character, Doctor Teddy Altman, was introduced in “New History” when Doctor Owen Hunt enthusiastically welcomed her onboard as a cardiothoracic surgeon.

The audience learned that Hunt and Altman used to work together in Iraq, and though they claim to just be friends, it soon became clear that Altman had secret feelings for her best friend and co-worker. However, the pair could never quite seem to get their timing right, and, during season 17, that still seems to remain true.

After having a child together and finally getting engaged, it seemed like a happy ending was finally in sight for Altman and Hunt. However, as viewers watched during the season 16 finale, that was not quite the case. Teddy was cheating on Owen with Tom Koracik when she unknowingly left a message of her indiscretions with Koracik on Owen’s voicemail.

How have fans and viewers felt about Dr. Teddy Altman?

When season 17 of Grey’s Anatomy premiered this past fall, many fans and viewers weren’t looking forward to seeing Raver’s character return. In an interview with Stars in the House Raver acknowledged that fans were upset with Teddy, and she shared that she is too. However, the star added some perspective and explained,”it’s peeling back the onion of who we are”.

This Reddit thread captures some of the many opinions and feelings fans have when it comes to Doctor Teddy Altman. One user in the discussion wrote, “Teddy was dreadful last season but people tend to have short term memory with characters like this and forget what she was like S5-9.”  It is safe to say many people were feeling this way, but, one of Grey’s Anatomy‘s most recent episodes seemed to have turned the tides, so to speak.

Doctor Teddy Altman had been receiving a lot of hate and shade from fans of Grey’s Anatomy for her character’s most recent storylines. However, that all seems to be changing with “In My Life”.

The season 17 episode explored Teddy Altman’s past like never before. Raver was depicted on screen bringing very emotional-wrought scenes to life that gave audiences as well as Teddy the insight and clarity they have been asking for. In the dream-like state Raver unpacked the details and dynamics behind her relationship and love with Allison Brown.

In the Reddit thread Raver received a tremendous amount of praise and compliments for her performance in the highly-loved episode. One user wrote, “Kim’s acting and the writers did incredible with portraying that bleak hopelessness, and it really struck a chord with me. I don’t want to make this long. I just wanted to say that it was incredible and intense, and probably my favourite episode this season.” The episode seemed to shift many people’s perspective of the character. Now, even more fans and viewers are excitedly looking forward to seeing what is in store for the future of Doctor Teddy Altman on Grey’s Anatomy.
