‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Giacomo Gianniotti Teases DeLuca’s Love Triangle with Meredith in Latest Instagram Photo
ABC’s long-running medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, is finally filming again after a six-month hiatus due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Giacomo Gianniotti, who portrays Andrew DeLuca and Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), both shared photos this week, teasing the upcoming season.

Since Meredith’s husband, Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), died in 2015 during season 11, the surgeon hasn’t been interested in finding love. However, she and DeLuca end up kissing at Jo (Camilla Luddington) and Alex Karev’s (Justin Chambers) wedding. After months of pursuing Meredith, the two finally begin dating.
However, they break up in season 16 because DeLuca realizes Meredith doesn’t respect him like she did Derek. Meredith starts getting to know the new pediatric surgeon Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood), and she finds they have a lot in common. Primarily, they are both widows, and Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) sent “McWidow” to Meredith.
In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 finale, Meredith finally agrees to go for drinks with Cormac. However, as she is leaving the hospital, she runs into a visibly distraught DeLuca. She stops to help him and get him home, and fans are left wondering which man she will choose.

Ellen Pompeo celebrated the start of the new season with a photo of her and Richard Flood, complete with scrubs and masks.
“First time back in my scrubs,” Pompeo’s caption began. “Since we shut down filming, 7000 healthcare workers have died from COVID. I dedicate my season 17 to all who have fallen and to every one of you who, by the grace of God, is still standing. This season is for you with humility and a bit of humor to get us through and endless amounts of gratitude. I hope we do you proud.”
Fans were excited to see that the show is filming again.
“Now, this is a new duo I want to see more of in season 17,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Love that she posted this pic.”
Fans aren’t sure if the photo means anything about Meredith and McWidow, but they want to believe it hints at their future relationship.
Giacomo Gianniotti teased another photo with Ellen Pompeo
After Pompeo posted her photo with Flood, Gianniotti followed it with one of him and Pompeo.
“Back on the set of @greysabc with the #1 and only @ellenpompeo,” Gianniotti captioned the photo. “We are so excited to bring you another season. These past six months have been a challenge for everyone, to say the LEAST. Because I cannot say it any better than Ellen, I will simply quote her and second her sentiment. We love you all, but this season is for our Medical Community.”
The photo brought up many questions fans have about who Meredith will end up with this season. Several fans would like to see her with Hayes instead of DeLuca.
“I’m super excited about the new guy as a possible long term partner for Meredith,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 will premiere sometime this fall on ABC. An exact date was not yet announced.
