Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 formally introduced Winston to the fandom. Maggie attended a medical conference in LA, where she ran into Winston. As fate would have it, they already knew each other. Winston was one of Maggie’s residents at Tufts. He also admitted he had a crush on Maggie.

As the conference continued, Grey’s Anatomy fans started to see sparks between Winston and Maggie. The couple hooked up and really started to connect. They bonded over the loss of their mothers and other similarities. Then when it was time to say goodbye, Winston revealed he wanted to seize the day and continue seeing Maggie.

“Sometimes you just meet somebody and you know,” Winston said.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 left the couple’s connection open ended. Then at the start of season 17, Maggie and Winston were in a long distance relationship. Winston was still in Boston, and Maggie was at Grey Sloan in Seattle. But despite the distance, the new couple managed to keep the romance alive through video chat amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

While Winston and Maggie brought Grey’s Anatomy fans joy throughout the first half of season 17, many individuals hoped the couple would get the chance to reunite in person. Then in the midseason finale, Winston flew to Maggie in the ultimate grand gesture.

“I told you the long-distance thing wasn’t working for me,” Winston said.

Meanwhile, Maggie broke down in happy tears as she hugged her boyfriend.

According to ABC, Grey’s Anatomy fans will get to see more scenes between Maggie and Winston in the second half of season 17. The synopsis for episode 7 simply states that the couple will “reconnect” when the series returns on March 11. Then in March 2021, Hill stopped by The Real and gave Grey’s Anatomy fans an actual teaser.

“At the end of the midseason finale, Winston shows up at the doorstep with flowers, and he’s finally in the same city as her,” Hill said. “So in the first episode back, we’re gonna see a lot of them together in the same room for the first time this season and finally getting reconnected and  finally getting to know each other again in the same room. It’s beautiful.”

Meanwhile, the description for the next all-new episode reveals Winston and Maggie will work together for the first time on Grey’s Anatomy

“Maggie gives Winston hospital privileges and they work together to treat an uneasy patient,” the season 17 episode 8 synopsis reads.

For now, Grey’s Anatomy viewers will just have to watch Maggie and Winston’s love story unfold in season 17. But whatever happens next, it seems the couple will continue to be a source of happiness this year. So stay tuned.
