‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Did Mark Sloan Have Any Children Before He Died?
In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 9 premiere, fans said goodbye to Seattle Grace’s favorite plastic surgeon, Mark Sloan (Eric Dane). In the previous season, the surgical team was involved in a plane crash. Mark suffered severe chest wounds and entered a coma. When his condition worsened, the doctors chose to “pull the plug” upon his request. Before Mark died, did he have any children?
Mark Sloan had a daughter named Sloan Riley
Grey’s Anatomy fans were first introduced to Mark’s first daughter, Sloan Riley (Leven Rambin). At the age of 18, she became pregnant. So, she decided to fly to Seattle and meet her biological father. At first, she kept her pregnancy a secret from Mark and his current girlfriend, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh). But, she revealed the secret out of fear of being kicked out. In turn, Mark decided to let her stay with him and Lexie.
Soon after, Sloan gave birth to a baby boy. However, she had to endure extensive surgery due to complications. After Sloan returned to Seattle, she told Mark that she wanted to give the baby to an adopted family. At first, Mark objected and tried to persuade her to keep the baby. If she decided to keep the baby, Mark said that he would be there for her. But, he didn’t want her to keep the baby because of him. Mark reiterated that no matter what, she’ll always have him. In the end, Sloan gave the baby to the adopted parents.
Callie Torres and Mark Sloan welcomed a baby girl named Sofia
After Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) won a grant to help children in Malawi, African, Callie (Sara Ramirez) agreed to go with her. However, Arizona could tell she didn’t want to go by her lack of enthusiasm. So, the couple breaks up. While Callie is heartbroken, she sleeps with Mark. Then, Callie discovered that she was pregnant with Mark’s baby. Arizona later returned from Malawi, asking Callie to forgive her for leaving. When Callie plans a weekend getaway for the two of them, they get into a car crash.
Due to her injuries, the baby was delivered by an emergency C-Section. Addison Forbes Montgomery (Kate Walsh) returned to Seattle to help deliver the baby. Sofia was a preemie baby, weighing only 1 pound and 1 ounce. Arizona resuscitated the baby and placed her in an incubator for her organs to mature. At one week old, she was able to breathe on her own. So, she was discharged and went home with Callie. Later, they named the little girl Sofia. Together, Arizona, Mark, and Callie helped raise Sofia.
Where are Sloan Riley and Sofia now?
Since Sloan Riley delivered her baby, she has not returned to Seattle. On the other hand, Sofia is being raised by Callie and Arizona. After moving to New York, Sofia decided to move back to Seattle and live with Arizona. While living in Seattle, she missed her mother, Callie. So, Arizona chose to move to New York for Sofia to have both mothers in her life. Meanwhile, she remains close friends with Zola, Meredith (Ellen Pompeo), and Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) daughter.
