‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Scott Speedman Hopes He Can ‘Win’ Fans Over With Nick Marsh and Meredith Grey’s Romance
It’s not over between Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. In the next episode on Nov. 11, the general surgeon will return to Minnesota and reunite with her latest romantic interest. That said, many viewers have mixed feelings about the new match. But it seems Speedman is hopeful he’ll be able to “win” over some fans with Nick and Meredith’s romance in Grey’s Anatomy — here’s what the actor said.

In the first few episodes of Grey’s Anatomy Season 18, Nick solidified himself as Meredith’s new love interest. But while some fans were excited to see where the romance was headed, others were skeptical, particularly after Patrick Dempsey’s return as Derek Shepherd in season 17. Then when speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Speedman opened up about the fan reactions surrounding Meredith and Nick.
“I did see some of the fan reactions seem to be sort of split either way on who I was and what I was doing there. And there seemed to be some anger towards me being there at all,” Speedman said. “The cool part about it, I guess, when you’re doing a show that’s been on for 17, 18 seasons, obviously, you have a very loyal fan base. And in this particular case, loyal and passionate.’
The Felicity star also acknowledged that many Grey’s Anatomy fans are “protective” over Meredith. However, he says he’ll be able to win them over eventually.
“They’re very protective of that character, Meredith’s character,” Speedman said. “So they want the best for her and… it’s a thing. So we’ll see. I’ll win them over.”

Now, it seems Speedman isn’t the only one who believes in Meredith and Nick’s connection in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. In an interview with People, Pompeo shared her thoughts on her chemistry with Speedman and how viewers will perceive Nick and Meredith.
“Scott’s a great actor. He’s interesting, edgy, sexy and super present,” Pompeo said. “We have great chemistry, we’re having a lot of fun filming our scenes and I know the audience will feel it.”
Will there be a love triangle between Meredith Grey, Nick Marsh, and Cormac Hayes in ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18?
Although Nick and Meredith are hitting it off in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18, fans still have Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood), aka McWidow, to consider. When Speedman became a series regular, showrunner Krista Vernoff told Deadline that Meredith will have “two men for whom she has feelings.” But it all depends on the “timing,” and there’s more to come.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Flood hinted that Meredith and Hayes still “have a strong connection, a strong flirtation.” But he wasn’t sure where the romance was headed, noting that there could even be a “spark” between Hayes and Megan Hunt (Abigail Spencer).
Nevertheless, if it ever came down to the initial response from Grey’s Anatomy fans, it looks like Hayes would win hands down. Flood revealed that the viewers have been “very kind” to him. The actor also speculated the reason why. And of course, it has to do with Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh.)
“I think the fact that he was sent by Cristina Yang was a big help in ingratiating the character with the Grey’s fandom,” Flood said.
