Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 16, “I’m Still Standing,” covered a total of six weeks, which means a lot happened in the new May 27 episode.

Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) realized he was all in with Nico Kim (Alex Landi). Then Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) told Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) he wanted to have more children. That said, Amelia admitted that she wasn’t so sure when speaking to Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), who seemingly rekindled his relationship with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver).

Meanwhile, Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) revealed she wanted to adopt baby Luna. But at the end of the episode, Jo’s application was denied because she didn’t pass the background check.

Grey’s Anatomy viewers also watched Winston and Maggie solidify their wedding plans. After a few hiccups, Maggie told her fiancé that something felt “wrong” because he mother, who previously died, won’t be at the wedding. She also suggested a small ceremony with close family due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Then when Winston accepted the proposal, Maggie’s adoptive father and Winston’s grandmother arrived at Grey Sloan Memorial.

“We take the engagement ring that my mom gave me, and we turn it into my wedding band,” Maggie told Winston. “We don’t wait. We get your grandma and my dad out here as soon as we can, and we just do it with family. Then someday, sometime, when it’s safe, we will have a party that sets the world on fire.”

Now, Grey’s Anatomy fans must prepare for a wedding of a lifetime in the season 17 finale. But there’s also something going on with Meredith. In “I’m Still Standing,” the character questioned whether she would operate again. Then Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) wanted Meredith to take over the residency program to enact some change at Grey Sloan.

“I need you to put together a team that reflects our world, and take over this class and choose every class after this one,” Bailey told Meredith. “You shape them, you set everything. You can throw out the whole curriculum if you want to, and then we will sandblast the bias right out of them. Then you can make sure that this world doesn’t go back to normal.”

The new ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 Episode 17 promo trailer hints at what’s next

The new Grey’s Anatomy episode teased major changes coming next in the grand finale. Then the season 17 episode 17 promo trailer revealed which storylines to watch out for on Thursday, June 3.

The Grey’s Anatomy preview starts off with Meredith seemingly back on her dream beach. But even so, it seems the character is doing just fine. Meredith returns to Grey Sloan Memorial. She’s greeted by a classroom of residents before running into Cormac “McWidow” Hayes (Richard Flood). Then the ABC medical drama teases a romantic spark between the two characters.

“I’m glad you didn’t die, Grey,” McWidow says.

Meredith looks down and laughs. “Me too,” she says.

Meanwhile, the Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 finale promo jumps to other love stories. Teddy opens the door for Owen. Link also has a brief moment of joy with Amelia. Then the trailer ends on Maggie and Winston’s wedding — but it isn’t exactly the happily ever after many fans were looking for.

In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 Episode 17 promo, Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) officiates the small ceremony. Then when he asks whether anyone objects to the union, Winston’s grandmother and Maggie’s father stand up.

As the preview comes to an end, Maggie and Winston look at their family in shock. Now, Grey’s Anatomy fans will have to wait and see what happens. But hopefully, the sudden objection is some sort of fakeout.

Sometimes we have one big thing that will happen. This was like 15 different things happening in a tiny script. In fact, there was so much material, so many crazy things happening, that we were gonna originally go over in days shooting and we had to do longer filming days to make it up. We have a wedding happening in our finale. We have Meredith Grey taking on a new role in the hospital, which is really exciting. We have relationships shifting, and Jo makes two really big decisions in the finale.
