‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 Episode 2 Promo Hints Meredith Grey Could Be Leaving For Good

Watch the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 Episode 2 promo trailer, which hints Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) could be leaving Seattle for a new life in Minnesota, particularly after Scott Speedman’s return as Nick Marsh.

Grey’s Anatomy is officially back with season 18, and it looks like Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and the rest of the Grey Sloan doctors are in for some new challenges. But one major decision could mean a change of scenery for the ABC medical drama. The Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 2 promo hinted that Meredith could be leaving Seattle for good — here’s our breakdown ahead of the new episode tonight on Oct. 7.

What happened to Meredith Grey in the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 premiere?

In the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 premiere, Meredith went to Minnesota because David Hamilton (Peter Gallagher) dedicated a research library to Ellis Grey (Kate Burton). Then Dr. Hamilton unveiled another surprise — a medical research center for Meredith to cure Parkinson’s disease.

Now, there’s no personal reason for Meredith to leave Seattle for Minnesota. But then Grey’s Anatomy re-introduced Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman), aka the first man to make Meredith feel something after Derek Shepherd’s (Patrick Dempsey) death. Nothing happened between Meredith and Nick in the premiere. But it seems the storyline isn’t over in the second episode.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 18 Episode 2 promo trailer teases what’s next for Meredith Grey tonight

The Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 2 promo trailer opens with Nick and Meredith flirting together. Meredith walks up, and Nick tells her she looks “amazing.” Then the narrator confirms Speedman is back on Grey’s, hinting at the actor’s series regular status for season 18.

As the teaser continues, Meredith brings Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) to Minnesota to get some advice. The general surgeon explains that she’s being offered “millions of dollars” to cure Parkinson’s disease. Amelia laughs in disbelief, and she says what many fans have been thinking.

“They’re giving you a lab?” Amelia says to Meredith. “Oh, you are definitely not coming back to Seattle!”

Now, it’s possible Meredith isn’t the only one who could be leaving Seattle in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18. Ahead of the new episode on Oct. 7, the ABC medical drama teased why Amelia is actually in Minnesota.

In the clip from Twitter, Amelia suggests Meredith sent a private jet to pick her up from Seattle. She also updates fans on what’s going on with baby Scout and Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) after she turned down his proposal — again.

“Scout has decided it is no longer cool to sleep through the night,” Amelia says. “So I looked like crap when I dropped him off with Link, who has mastered quiet disappointment — but somehow looked so good doing it.”

Then Amelia sees “The Grey Center” research lab, and Meredith hints that she wants Amelia’s help.

“I’m asking you. So it’s us,” Meredith says.

Now, are Meredith and Amelia leaving Seattle in Grey’s Anatomy Season 18? We’ll just have to wait and see what happens in episode 2.

While the Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 Episode 2 teasers focused on Meredith and Amelia’s next big move, there are other storylines happening at Grey Sloan Memorial. In the premiere, it was clear that Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) needed to get the residents back on track after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Then the Grey’s Anatomy promo for the Oct. 7 episode shared what to expect. Richard tells the residents they will “embark on the toughest surgical work.” Then Bailey says it feels like the “old days.”

Meanwhile, ABC’s synopsis for episode 2 of Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 hints that Richard will feel “re-energized” when he “takes teaching to a new level” at Grey Sloan. Then Winston Ngudu (Anthony Hill) will treat a patient who’s suffering from kidney failure. It also seems like something will happen with Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) because Abigail Spencer will guest star as Megan Hunt.

Clearly, there’s a lot going on when Grey’s Anatomy Season 18 returns for episode 2. So stay tuned.
