The Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 premiere is on the horizon, and we can’t stop thinking about the drama between Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) and Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). Throughout season 16, Teddy cheated on Owen with Tom Koracick (Greg Germann). Then in the finale, Owen discovered the affair after an unfortunate voicemail. Now, where are the two best friends headed in the new season? Recently, showrunner Krista Vernoff teased Teddy and Owen’s upcoming storyline for season 17.

How Owen Hunt finds out Teddy Altman is cheating with Tom Koracick on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Teddy and Owen were supposed to get married in the Grey’s Anatomy Season 16 finale. However, Teddy was still sleeping with Tom, even hours before the wedding. Then when the couple hooked up at Grey Sloan, they accidentally left Owen a voicemail of their little adventure. So when Owen listened to the clip, he was crushed.

Later, Teddy still planned to marry Owen. But when she put her dress on, Owen’s mom told her the ceremony was postponed. Apparently, he was called in for emergency surgery. That said, Teddy appeared a little panicked, as her fiancé didn’t tell her about the change of plans.

Meanwhile, Teddy appeared in the Station 19 Season 3 finale. The character told Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) to forgive Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre) for cheating on her.

“If you love her, forgive her,” Teddy said in the episode. But does this cameo mean anything on Grey’s Anatomy? It might be a little more complicated than you think.

While Teddy convinced Carina to forgive her girlfriend on Station 19, we still don’t know whether Owen forgives Teddy on Grey’s Anatomy. In an interview with TV Guide from May 2020, Vernoff shared the character’s “rich emotional life around cheating and forgiveness” was the reason why she was on the firefighter spinoff. But for now, Grey’s Anatomy fans will just have to wait and see what happens to Teddy and Owen in season 17.

“What I liked about that Teddy scene [on Station 19] is you don’t know,” Vernoff said. “You don’t know what Teddy’s been through.”

That said, it seems Teddy and Owen’s journey in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 will not be an easy task.

“We’re playing that story through in dramatic fashion,” Vernoff told TV Insider in October 2020. “Teddy is wrecked the way people are when they ruin their lives.” The showrunner also confirmed Owen “is also wrecked” before the time jump

Meanwhile, McKidd hinted Owen will have a “wrecking ball of reality dumped on him” in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17. Then Raver suggested Teddy will be exploring her “trauma” in the new season.

Now, Owen and Teddy aren’t the only characters with dramatic arcs in Grey’s Anatomy Season 17. In the above interview with TV Insider, Vernoff hinted Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) main focus will be the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“[Meredith’s] deep in the work that doctors in this country are doing right now, which is trying hard to save the lives of people who have COVID,” Vernoff said.

Meanwhile, Jo (Camilla Luddington) and new roommate Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) lean on each other and they form an “unexpected” friendship. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Atticus “Link” Lincoln (Chris Carmack) are also in a “good place” after the birth of their son. We’ll also learn the baby’s name in the premiere.

Later, Vernoff teased a new “long-distance romance” between Winston Ndugu (Anthony Hill) and Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary). Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and Ben Warren (Jason George) will also be in a similar situation — sort of. According to TV Insider, the fan-favorite couple will quarantine separately to keep their kids safe amid the pandemic. Then to add another layer of stress, Bailey will be working “triple time.”

There’s a lot going on at Grey Sloan Memorial when Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC. So get ready and grab some tissues for Thursday, Nov. 12. This one’s going to be wild.
