Will Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 return tonight with more Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) on that beach? Through all of the heartache of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grey’s Anatomy producers brought some bright spots with the return of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey).
Viewers rejoiced when George O’Malley (T. R. Knight) had a heart-to-heart conversation with Meredith on the beach. Later in the season, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) returned for another talk. However, fans want to know when Meredith and Derek will have a deeper conversation. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 17 Episode 12 recap
Last week on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Meredith continued to sleep through her battle with COVID-19. She no longer needed a ventilator to breathe, and her vitals looked great. However, she remained asleep. While the city of Seattle struggled with protests and police brutality, Schmitt (Jake Borelli) took Meredith into the hyperbaric chamber.
The world outside the chamber went on. Winston got pulled over by police officers on his way back to Seattle. When they made him get off the phone with Maggie (Kelly McCreary), she panicked. Luckily, Winston lived, but not before an emotional run-in with the officers who made him empty his entire vehicle for a search.
Debbie Allen’s sister, Phylicia Rashad, made a guest appearance as Nell. She was protesting with Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) when she was hit with a tear-gas canister. Nell needed surgery to remove the canister from her neck, but it went well.
She ultimately joined the show to inspire the other doctors to stand up for what they believed. Richard and Nell shared their battle scars from past protests. The whole interaction impacted Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), who got in his car to drive 11 hours right as the episode ended. Yes, Grey’s Anatomy returns with an all-new episode tonight, April 22, featuring more Meredith and Derek. The show’s social media team heavily teased fans on April 21 with a new photo of the couple together.
“You gave me everything I needed until my last breath,” the quote on Instagram read.
Derek returned for three prior episodes this season. Now, for his final conversation with Meredith, on Grey’s Anatomy tonight, things deepen. In the preview for the episode, Meredith wants to get closer to her dead husband. However, he’s afraid she’ll never want to leave and return to her children. At the end of the promo, Derek wraps his arms around Meredith.
Hopefully, fans also find out where Jackson is headed. However, the synopsis does not mention the surgeon.
“Amidst the need for more surgeons, Jo tries to convince Bailey to let her switch specialties,” the promo on YouTube reads. “Elsewhere, Link accuses Amelia of overstepping while he is treating a patient remotely, and Winston comes up with an out-of-the-box idea.”
