‘Grey’s Anatomy’: Who Else Returns From Meredith’s Past? — 3 Most Likely Possibilities
Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 already saw the return of Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) back to Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). In the next episode trailer, viewers see that someone else from the surgeon’s past returns. Here are the three most likely possibilities.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ alum T. R. Knight could return as George O’ Malley
There is no shortage of past colleagues, family members, and patients that could return to Meredith Grey. However, in the dream or unconscious state where Meredith sees Derek, another deceased person from her past returns. Fans feel strongly that it could be Mer’s former colleague George O’Malley who died in season 5.
“Ellen Pompeo and T.R. Knight recently have been hanging out a lot,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “So it could be George.”
George died during the season 5 finale after jumping in front of a bus to save a stranger. Knight spent time on Broadway following his time on Grey’s, and now he stars in HBO Max’s miniseries, The Flight Attendant.
Pompeo and Knight are friends who are often spotted together. Earlier this year, they went to a protest together to support the Black Lives Matter movement. While it would be easy to bring him back to the set, fans point out two of Meredith’s deceased family members who are even more likely to make an appearance.
Meredith Grey could see her sister, Lexie Grey, on the beach with Derek
In Grey’s Anatomy Season 8, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh) and Mark Sloan (Eric Dane) both tragically died because of a plane crash in 2012. Seattle Grace hospital became Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital because of their deaths. Meredith’s sister, Lexie, isn’t mentioned as much as fans feel she should be, and her return would be an overdue tribute.
“If it’s Lexie, I will legit sob,” one fan wrote. “I’m still sad Lexie died before Mer made it back to her in the woods. I need this.”
Other fans agree that they would love to see Lexie make an appearance. Leigh portrays Alex Danvers in the CD Comics series Supergirl. However, it wouldn’t be hard for her to join the set for an episode or two.
‘Grey’s Anatomy’ could bring back Ellis
While fans hope that either George or Lexie appears on the show, another strong possibility is Meredith’s dead mother, Ellis Grey (Kate Burton). She died in season 3 but returned in various dreams and flashbacks. Fans feel that Meredith has closure about her mother already, so they are hopeful that Lexie returns, instead.
“If we don’t get Lexie on the beach at some point this season, it’s going to be such a massive misstep,” added one viewer. “She’s Meredith’s first sister that caused her to do so much growing. Their story was far from complete. Lexie’s had so much potential, and we know how much Meredith still misses and grieves for her.”
Viewers will find out who the mystery person is from Meredith’s past when Grey’s Anatomy returns on Dec. 3, 2020.
