Justin and Hailey Bieber might have grown up in the public eye, but not to the same extent.

During a recent interview with Vogue India, the supermodel compared her adolescence to that of her pop star husband, sharing that though she grew up somewhat famous, Justin dealt with ‘way crazier’ childhood fame than she ever did.

Hailey Bieber opened up about how she and Justin grew up in the public eye

Hailey Bieber may be a member of one of Hollywood’s most famous families, but she recently explained that she never felt like she spent her childhood in the spotlight.

Though she is the daughter of well-known actor Stephen Baldwin and counts Alec Baldwin as an uncle, Bieber says she had a normal childhood compared to that of her husband, Justin Bieber.

“To be honest, I don’t really think I was ever famous,” the model said in her cover story for Vogue India‘s August 2020 issue. “Of course, I knew my father was an actor and he was famous to an extent, but if I was to compare how I grew up to how Justin did, he’s had a way crazier ‘famous’ experience really young.”

The supermodel explained that unlike Bieber, who was going on worldwide tours and topping music charts long before he was old enough to drive, she got to live a “normal” life in Tuscan, Arizona.

“I got to grow up and get my driver’s license and really be normal until the past three years of my life,” she said.

After spending much of her youth being homeschooled and perfecting her ballet routines, Hailey got into fashion in her teens and began experiencing fame once she moved to Los Angeles.

Justin, on the other hand, propelled to superstardom at a very young age. After getting discovered at the age of 13 by talent manager Scooter Braun, Bieber soon became one of the best selling musicians in the world.

Justin Bieber struggled with his childhood stardom

Although he lived a life many dreamed of having, Bieber’s experience with childhood fame led him down a dark path that took him years to heal from.

In a lengthy post shared to his Instagram in September 2019, the “Baby” crooner opened up his struggles with worldwide stardom, revealing that he’d made “every bad decision you could have thought of” by the time he was 20-years-old.

From doing “pretty heavy drugs” to abusing the relationships he was in, Bieber said he went from being the “most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hated person in the world.”

However, the singer shared that his faith and the support of friends and family, including Hailey, had helped turn his life around.

“It’s taken me years to bounce back from all of these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships, and change relationship habits,” he wrote.” Luckily, God blessed me with extraordinary people who love me for me. Now I am navigating the best season of my life ‘MARRIAGE’!!”

Hailey Bieber says fame is always not easy

Like her husband, Bieber has also struggled with fame in the past.

While appearing on Hillsong Channel’s six-part TV series Now with Natalie, the supermodel revealed that she’s also experienced the downside of fame, but not to the same extent as Justin.

“I think the biggest thing I’ve struggled with is I compare myself to people a lot,” she said. “It’s not that people expect anything, it’s just that I don’t want to disappoint the family that I come from. I don’t want to be this ‘train wreck’ to anybody. It’s about carrying the name in a positive way.”

She added, “I think every person has had that feeling that they’re not enough [but] when I question that in myself [I remind myself]: ‘you are – because God took His time to create me and put me in this place… that’s your answer right here: you’re enough because He created you.”
