It’s often easy to assume celebrities have it easier than everyone else, but what we sometimes forget is that while they’re much richer than many people, they still have their own set of struggles. In many cases, that struggle includes physical and mental health that isn’t always noticeable to the naked eye.

However, Halsey has always been transparent about her health and the importance of not being ashamed for seeking help. The singer-songwriter also admits being ‘aggressive’ about her health isn’t optional.

Halsey’s health history and 2016 diagnosis

Halsey has always urged fans to seek help if they need it for their mental illness and, above all else – never be ashamed or think this is how it has to be forever.

One of her many shout-outs and social media posts about mental health includes one with her in a shirt that says ‘Reach out, LET’S TALK.” In her Twitter post, she tells fans, “You are never alone, and you are WANTED and LOVED. Every battle helps you win the war!”

It’s not unusual Halsey is a strong advocate for mental health awareness. Not only is she a genuinely good person, but she has had her own struggles with mental health, endometriosis, and even a few miscarriages. In fact, she was on stage for one of them, and it really messed her up for a while.

“Before I could really figure out what [the pregnancy] meant to me and what that meant for my future… the next thing I knew, I was on stage miscarrying in the middle of my concert,” BBC reports the “Sorry” singer said. “The sensation of looking a couple [of] hundred teenagers in the face while you’re bleeding through your clothes and still having to do the show…”

If you’re not aware, endometriosis is a condition that causes heavy periods and infertility, along with other problems. Her losses were connected to her painful condition.

Halsey says being ‘aggressive’ about her health isn’t an option

Following three miscarriages and the diagnosis of endometriosis (which affects her chances of getting pregnant), Halsey turned to freezing her eggs to control her future and her chances of getting pregnant.

“I never want to make that choice ever again of doing what I love or not being able to because of this disease,” BBC reports Halsey saying. “So I put my foot down and got really aggressive about seeking treatment, and I had surgery about a year ago, and I feel a lot better.”

In response to questions about freezing her eggs at 23, the “Bad at Love” singer explained, “I need to be aggressive about protecting my fertility, about protecting myself.” It’s unconventional for a 23-year-old, but the truth is, Halsey feels like when it comes to women’s health, “doctors tend to minimize the female experience.”

Back in 2017, Halsey posted to Twitter a link to her Insta that read, “Today I braved multiple terrifying surgeries. The most important of which being the surgery that would hopefully treat my endometriosis…If you suffer from chronic pain or a debilitating disease, please know that I have found time to live a crazy, wild, rewarding life AND balance my treatment, and I hope so much in my heart that you can too.”

Little did she know that nearly four years later, her dream would come true.

“For a long time, I didn’t think that having a family was something I was going to be able to do, and it’s very, very important to me,” People reports Halsey saying. A year later, Halsey celebrates her Rainbow Baby after three miscarriages, posting Instagram photos of her baby bump, saying, “surprise!”

It’s been a long and hard road for Halsey, but it’s safe to say she took control of her health and made her dreams come true. There’s going to be a Halsey baby, and we’re so happy for her!
