Lizzo’s music career first started in 2013 when she released her first album, Lizzobangers. She was not a well-known name back then, so her music received very little attention. That did not stop Lizzo, however, and she continued to release more music in the coming years.

In 2017, Lizzo released the song “Truth Hurts,” which did not achieve much notability at the time. Nevertheless, she suddenly became an overnight sensation two years later when the song saw a rise in popularity among young people. The opening line in “Truth Hurts” that says “I just took a DNA test, turns out I’m 100% that b****” went viral on the app TikTok, and suddenly Lizzo gained loads of fans.

Later on, “Truth Hurts” also went on to be featured in the Netflix movie Someone Great, which helped it move up the Billboard chart to eventually become a No. 1 single.

When Lizzo released her album, Cuz I Love You, in April 2019, the release charted at No. 4 and was certified gold. Other songs on the album, such as “Juice,” “Boys,” and “Tempo” also racked up a lot of streams and found themselves charting at various positions.

Lizzo has won 13 awards so far

Given how well Lizzo did in 2019, it is not surprising that she was nominated for many different accolades in the year that followed.

For example, she was nominated for three American Music Awards, three MTV European Music Awards, three Teen Choice Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards.

She has won 13 awards in total so far, including an Apple Music Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, a Rolling Stone’s International Award for Style, a Soul Train Music Award for Video of the Year, and another Soul Train Music Award for Album/Mixtape of the Year.

It is important to note that Lizzo was also named Time Magazine’s Entertainer of the Year for 2019. Additionally, she received the same recognition by Entertainment Weekly as well.

Of course, Lizzo could potentially have more awards coming her way since the Grammy Awards have not happened yet.

The Grammys are one of music’s biggest annual award shows. The show will be presented on January 26 this year, and Lizzo fans will be excited to know that she has been nominated in eight categories. This makes her the most nominated artist for this year’s Grammy Awards.

Lizzo herself has been nominated for Best New Artist. Meanwhile, her album Cuz I Love You has been nominated for Album of the Year and Best Urban Contemporary Album. The song “Truth Hurts” has been nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance. She also has a nomination under the Best R&B Performance for the song “Exactly How I Feel” featuring Gucci Mane as well as Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song “Jerome.”

While it is unlikely that Lizzo will win all eight awards, there is a good chance that she could take home at least one or two.

The Grammy Awards 2021 will air on March 14 on CBS.
