With 16 seasons under its belt and counting, NCIS continues to be one of the most popular shows on television. The crime procedural has one of the largest fan bases in the business and is showing no signs of slowing down. While NCIS has done great amongst fans and critics alike, its success has not translated into awards. So has Mark Harmon, Cote de Pablo, or Michael Weatherly ever won an Emmy?

Michael Weatherly

Michael Weatherly played Tony DiNozzo on NCIS for the show’s first 13 seasons. Although he enjoyed a successful run on the hit show, his work did not earn him any Emmy nominations.

Weatherly has, however, received nominations for his other work on television. This includes nods for two Saturn Awards and one Teen Choice Award for Dark Angel. Weatherly also received a Maverick Movie Award bid for Charlie Valentine and two Soap Opera Digest Award nominations for Loving.

The former NCIS star also won a DOC LA award for Jamaica Man. Weatherly currently stars on the CBS show, Bull, for which he has yet to get an Emmy consideration.

There has been a lot of talk about Weatherly returning to NCIS to reunite with Cote de Pablo, so there is a chance that his Emmy winning days are not over yet.

Mark Harmon

Mark Harmon has starred as the lead of NCIS ever since the beginning, and his portrayal of Leroy Jethro Gibbs is a big reason behind the show’s success. But as surprising as it may sound, Harmon has never won an Emmy for NCIS.

In fact, Harmon has never even been nominated for an Emmy, at least not where NCIS is concerned. The actor has received two Emmy nominations over the course of his career, including one for The West Wing and another for Eleanor and Franklin: The White House Years.

Harmon has taken home several nominations for NCIS, including numerous TV Guide Award and People’s Choice Award nods.

Cote de Pablo

Cote de Pablo, who returned to NCIS in epic fashion last season, is in a similar boat as Weatherly. De Pablo plays the part of Ziva David on the hit crime procedural but has yet to nab an Emmy nomination.

The actress has, however, been nominated for several ALMA Awards for NCIS. Out of four ALMA nods, de Pablo won one time for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Television Series.

She also won an Imagen Foundation Award in 2006 for her work on NCIS. The actress was nominated for the award three more times before winning in 2016 for The 33.

De Pablo is set to return to NCIS for season 17, though her character’s future on the show remains a mystery. If she returns full-time, then there is a chance De Pablo could find herself in the running for an Emmy in the near future.

Has ‘NCIS’ every won an Emmy?

While the cast of NCIS has been snubbed by Emmys so far, the series has received three nominations in previous years. In 2005, the show was nominated in the category for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Charles Durning).

Three years later, the series received a nod for Outstanding Stunt Coordination (Diamond Farnsworth). In 2013, Farnsworth received another nomination in the stunt category.

Considering how NCIS is one of the most popular shows on television, it is surprising that it has not received more Emmy nominations. We can only hope that changes in the coming years, but if the past is anything to go on, we wouldn’t hold our breath.

One reason NCIS has struggled to win Emmy consideration is because of its format. NCIS follows an episodic format, which features more stand-alone episodes over overarching story plots.

Shows that follow this formula have struggled to gain attention when it comes to awards. It also hinders the ability of the show to dive deeper into character storylines, which is something the Emmys consider heavily.

That does not mean NCIS will continue to get snubbed by the Emmys, but its chances of winning major awards are clearly diminished.

NCIS returns for season 17 Tuesday, September 24, on CBS.

The 71st Primetime Emmys air September 22 on Fox.
