‘Hawkeye’: Jeremy Renner Collides with Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop in Explosive First Trailer

Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye meets a competitor in Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop with the explosive first trailer for Disney+’s ‘Hawkeye.’ Set during Christmas time, the show dives into Hawkeye’s spiral during the 5-year gap in ‘Endgame.’ In the comics, Clint passed the Hawkeye mantle to Kate and the show may take a similar route.

When Avenger’s: Endgame opened with Clint Barton, AKA Hawkeye, teaching his daughter archery, fans thought they saw the next hero trained. However, as Hailee Steinfeld (quite literally) crashed into the Disney+ Hawkeye trailer, the next Hawkeye looks to be someone totally different: Kate Bishop.

Kate Bishop, the world’s greatest archer?

Marvel’s Christmas gift to fans looks to include a newcomer in Hailee Steinfeld plating Kate Bishop.

This isn’t Steinfeld’s first rodeo with Marvel films. She played Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and likely reprise her role for the planned spinoff.

In the latest Disney+ trailer, Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop appears to have taken up the violent vigilante guise that Hawkeye used in Avenger’s: Endgame. Pursuing the imitator, Clint and Kate meet in a less-than-friendly fashion.

Despite a rough start, the two careen through the trailer, fighting bad guys and dodging danger. All the while, Andy Williams serenades the audience with “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.”

Even ahead of the trailer release, Digital Trends reported “an enormous amount of amateur photo and video hitting the web.” If the pictures are anything to go off, the series looks to be incredibly fun.

Clint Barton dealing with ‘Endgame’ fallout

Many fans theorized on why Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was absent from Avenger’s: Infinity War. Endgame revealed that he had much more pressing matters: a cookout with his family.

However, when they vanished in the Blip, Hawkeye took a darker turn.

Donning a vigilante disguise, he waged a one-man war against crime families and villains across the world. While audiences only saw the tail end of this rampage, the Disney+ show looks to give us more context.

When Clint Barton wore the black and yellow suit in the comics, he took on the name Ronin (not to be confused with the Kree villain Ronan from Guardians of the Galaxy). However, when the new trailer dropped, someone new took on the disguise.

It was quickly revealed to be Kate Bishop. “When I wore this suit,” Clint said in the trailer. “I made a whole lot of enemies.”

Just who these enemies remain to be seen.

For now, with the two archers working together, it looks like Marvel may be setting up their next archer.

Will Kate Bishop be the next Hawkeye?

Clint and Kate got off to a similarly rocky start in the comics, like the Disney+ show.

It will also sound confusing for casual fans. Kate Bishop already called herself Hawkeye during their first meeting, and Clint Barton wore Captain American’s suit and shield. They clashed a few times before Clint officially dubbed her the new Hawkeye.

The Disney+ show could follow a vein similar to Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where a new hero comes into a legacy role.

Despite trying, again and again, to retire from hero work, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye continuously finds himself dragged away from his family. However, with a new archer to carry on the name, he may finally get the chance to be with his family.

As for Kate Bishop, her adventures only begin during the Christmas season.

The trailer ended announcing new episodes starting on November 24, 2021.
