Netflix’s The Witcher sees Superman star Henry Cavill bringing the iconic character Geralt of Rivia to life. The CD Projekt Red games and Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels serve as guides for the TV series, which works in moments from both. One of the most iconic scenes featured in The Witcher 3 made its way into the Netflix series: Geralt sitting in a bathtub. Although the moment isn’t incredibly relevant to the overall plot, it’s become an image that fans associate with the franchise.

‘The Witcher’ games inspired Henry Cavill’s bathtub scene in the Netflix series

Cavill is a longtime fan of The Witcher franchise, so he knew just how iconic the bathtub scene from The Witcher 3 was. Because of that, he was excited to bring the moment to life on-screen. Unfortunately, he couldn’t capture it exactly as it appears in the game.

Speaking to BBC Radio 1, the actor reflected on filming that moment, recalling that the bathtub wasn’t quite the same shape as the one from The Witcher 3:

“It’s a very iconic moment. And a lot of people are attributing that to the games, and yes, the games absolutely brought that forward into an iconic moment. But it is also from the books. And so, I don’t know how many people realized how iconic it was — that there was already a visual attached. And so, when I was getting into that bath, I was sitting there thinking, ‘I wonder if anyone knows how much this is going to explode, this particular scene. I was trying to put my feet up, but I couldn’t,” he added. “The bath was the wrong shape. I thought it might be a bit much as well.”

Fortunately, that didn’t stop Cavill’s interpretation of the scene from blowing up. In fact, fans even wanted to know if Geralt would take another bath in The Witcher Season 2.

Henry Cavill in Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’

Those hoping to see Cavill back in the bathtub for The Witcher Season 2 may find themselves disappointed come December. During a discussion at Netflix’s WitcherCon event, the actor revealed that Geralt won’t have a similar scene in the new episodes.

“Geralt only showers from now on,” Cavill joked. “He invented the shower for this very reason. No, actually, [for] myself personally, there’s no bathtub scenes.”

Despite no iconic bathing moments cropping up in season 2, the actor doesn’t think fans looking for sexier scenes will be let down.

“People will not be disappointed,” he added. “There’s plenty of man-flesh to be observed.”

Although The Witcher Season 2 won’t feature any bathtub scenes, Netflix’s anime film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf will keep with the tradition of showing its main character taking a dip. The trailer and Twitter promotions for the upcoming release show Geralt’s mentor, Vesemir, sitting in the tub and having a drink.

Not only will fans get their fill of bathtub content from The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, but they’ll also get something to hold them over until season 2 of the live-action series arrives on Dec. 17.

The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf comes out on Netflix on Aug. 23, nearly half a year earlier. That leaves plenty for fans to look forward to in the coming months — and segues into meeting an older version of Vesemir in the show’s second outing.
