In real life, Olivia Rodrigo is known for her love of Taylor Swift and for releasing original songs like “Drivers License,” “Brutal,” and “Deja Vu.”

In High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, though, this character also is pursuing some pretty exciting musical opportunities. Here’s what we know about this character and her future at East High School.

Olivia Rodrigo recorded songs like ‘Drivers License’ and ‘Deja Vu’

She’s an award-winning musician, earning millions of streams on songs like “Drivers License” and “Deja Vu.” Rodrigo released her album Sour in 2021, complete with colorful music videos and a virtual prom experience for fans.

In a Disney+ original series, this actor portrayed a musician who went viral for her original songs. That’s the character Nini from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Outside of her music career, Rodrigo starred in Disney Channel’s Bizaardvark and the Disney+ original series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. In the Disney+ mockumentary, she starred as one of the main characters — a musical theater nerd named Nini.

In season 1, this character earned the lead role in her high school’s musical. In season 2, she left a performing arts school to pursue her creativity as a musician at East High School.

One of the last moments of season 2 included Nini taking a significant phone call from a music producer. That could mean this character will develop her original music further, although her future is pretty uncertain.

There’s also the uncertainty of Rodrigo’s actual music career. Some fans speculate that this artist will prefer to create more music, although she has not commented on her return to a potential season 3.

“I would never want Olivia to think we’re stealing from her life,” series creator and showrunner Tim Federle told TV Line. “We write these scripts six months before we shoot them, and it’s amazing how art imitates life. But I definitely think Jamie is here to shake things up for Nini’s future.”
