Featuring a star-studded cast, hilarious hijinks, and phenomenal writing, the films are Christmas staples for many people.

Home Alone first stole hearts back in 1990 and became the number one movie at the box office opening weekend. The movie told the story of Kevin McCallister (played by Macaulay Culkin) and his large family. After Kevin gets into a heated argument with his family over pizza, he is banished to the attic for the rest of the evening. When the morning arrives, his family accidentally leaves him behind in their haste to catch their plane to Paris, France.

‘Home Alone’ is considered a classic Christmas movie

Though Kevin is thrilled to discover he’s home alone at first, things get more complicated when two burglars, called the Wet Bandits, are intent on robbing his family home. Because the phone lines are down and most of his neighbors are traveling for the holiday season, Kevin doesn’t really have anyone to turn to for protection. Still, Kevin is determined to defend his home and he sets a system of booby traps to prevent the burglars from invading his home.

The cast reprised their role in the sequel

Following the success of Home Alone, Columbus chose to make a sequel the following year. The entire cast signed on to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and the sequel also become a box office success. In the sequel, Kevin isn’t technically left at home. Instead, he accidentally boards the wrong flight and is left to face the dangers of New York alone. Unfortunately for Kevin, the Wet Bandits have escaped from prison and are determined to get revenge before they make their grand escape.

What made the movies so great?

Part of what makes both films so hilarious and successful is the dynamic cast. Fans tend to be particularly amused with the relationship that Kevin has with his many siblings, cousins, and his parents. Home Alone paints a truly hilarious relationship between Kevin his older brother, Buzz. Furthermore, Kevin’s clear disdain for his uncle Frank and his inherent cheapness always delivers on humor.

Of course, family dynamics didn’t only exist when the cameras were rolling. In fact, two members of the Home Alone cast are actually related in real life. Funnily enough, they play cousins, rather than siblings, in the movies. Fans will recall that Kevin opts to sleep in the attic because he doesn’t want to sleep on the hide-a-bed sofa with his younger cousin, Fuller. Fuller, of course, has a habit of wetting the bed and Kevin doesn’t want to take the risk of being peed on.

Which ‘Home Alone’ cast members are related in real life?

Fuller is actually played by Kieran Culkin, the younger brother of Macaulay. The brothers are only two years apart in age and they both gave great performances in the Home Alone movies. If you’d like to see the siblings interact on screen, both films are currently streaming on Disney+
