‘Homeland’ has been on the air for eight seasons

Homeland premiered on Showtime in 2011, and it introduced viewers to CIA operative Carrie Matheson and her mentor, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin). Carrie is bipolar and must deal with her volatile behavior. But throughout it all, she uses her brilliant mind to see things that most others can’t.

Through eight seasons, Carrie and Saul have sabotaged terrorist plots, hindered international schemes, and saved American democracy. Along the way, Carrie lost close friends and lovers and had a baby girl named Franny.

Why is it ending?

There are a lot more storylines the Homeland could potentially cover with its characters, but unfortunately, this season is it’s last. As reported by TV Line, Showtime president David Nevins said that the eighth season would bring Carrie’s story to a close.

“Alex Gansa (the Homeland executive producer) will be bringing this show, which has won eight Emmys and five Golden Globes, to its proper conclusion,” Nevins said. “I cannot say enough about how much Homeland has meant for the acceleration of our brand, not to mention to me personally. It was, in fact, the first show that I greenlit when I came to Showtime.”

Nevins also revealed that the reason the show is ending is that Claire Danes (also a producer) and Gansa felt it was time to say goodbye. “Alex and Claire both started talking about it towards the end of last season,” he said. “I asked, ‘Are you sure? Let’s think about it.’ But when they were resolved, it seemed like it was the right time. The two of them finally made the decision.”

‘Homeland’ fans are sad to see the series go

Homeland is one of the most gripping shows on TV, and it’s no surprise fans aren’t ready to see Carrie’s story end. “Only two episodes left? Forever? We have been riding with the #Homeland crew for a long time and I may speak for everyone in saying we are sad to see an end to such an amazing group of storytellers,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I absolutely loved Homeland and I’m sad to see it end,” another Twitter user shared. “It meant so much to me to see such a flawed, strong, powerful woman, wallowing in all the grey areas of life and politics. Carrie Mathison is an amazing character.”

“This season of #Homeland has been INCREDIBLE! I’m so sad there’s only two episodes left and then the show is over for good,” tweeted one fan

“I am getting season 5 of 24 vibes from this season of #Homeland,”” another Twitter user wrote. “It has been THAT GOOD. I know the reveal coming up will be major. I’m so sad this show is ending!!!”

The general fan consensus is that this last season, specifically the final episodes, have been some of the best so far. It is hard to say goodbye, but at least the show is giving fans an intense and thrilling end to the series.
