Body insecurity is not just for those of us staring at polished pictures of celebrities and feeling like we’ll never live up to the standard. In fact, many celebrities face body insecurities of their own, and the fact that they spend so much time in the spotlight can’t help.

Even someone as poised, gorgeous, and apparently confident as Chrissy Teigen has had to face her own body image issues. The star opened up about her struggles in a recent interview with Glamour magazine. Her honest and candid response helps to show readers that they aren’t alone in their own struggles to accept themselves the way they are and offers some real inspiration.

Teigen is widely known for her marriage to famous singer John Legend, but Teigen is also a celebrity in her own right. After a rough start that included some serious family problems, Teigen started modeling when she was just a teenager.

She spent years trying to make ends meet as a model and had trouble scraping by until she landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated and saw a real boost to her career. Around the same time, she started dating Legend, and the pair were married in 2013.

Since then, they’ve often been held up as a role model for couples everywhere. They’re cherished for their authentic banter and obvious affection for one another

Teigen now hosts TV shows, authors cookbooks, and has her own line of cookware in Target.

Chrissy Teigen is known for keeping it real

Whether it’s opening up about her own life or not being afraid to put her true personality front and center, Teigen is known as one of the most authentic and honest celebrities around. She was open about her struggles with infertility and postpartum depression.

She’s generously shared glimpses of her family’s life with fans on her social media accounts, and she strives to break down unrealistic expectations by revealing herself in less glamorous moments as well as polished ones.

Teigen is also known for clapping back hard when she faces criticism online, and her interactions leave the impression that she’s not someone you want to mess with. She comes across as genuinely kind, open, and fully confident in who she is.

Chrissy Teigen revealed her body insecurities

Perhaps that confidence is why her reveal about her own body insecurities comes as something of a shock to fans. Here is someone who was deemed universally gorgeous enough to make a living as a model, someone who is married to one of the most attractive men in entertainment, and someone who is beloved by fans all across the world. Yet she still faced thoughts of inadequacy.

In the interview with Glamour, Teigen revealed that she had a breast augmentation to “fill them out” and would like to have them removed but doesn’t want to risk the side effects of surgery. On top of that, she opened up about facing down her insecurities over having a “pug face.”

“If you hear the same comment over and over again, it gets to you. But when you are happy in other aspects of your life, you care less about it. When I see my crazy, weird smile and my teeth being too big for my mouth, I see it as showing genuine emotion and happiness, so I don’t see it as a negative thing any more,” Teigen explained.

Knowing that someone as beautiful and seemingly confident as Teigen can internalize harsh words about her appearance can be inspiring to fans. It is also a clear reminder that the comments we make about people have an impact. Kindness toward ourselves and others is the message to take away from Teigen’s reflections.
