Since she was a young child, D’Amelio has been doing competitive dancing. As she revealed in an interview with High Snobiety, her parents also have some dance background. (Her mom was a competitive dancer and her dad did some breakdancing). Because of this, it is not surprising D’Amelio picked up on dancing as well.
She also shared with Variety that she joined TikTok because she enjoyed dancing with her friends in their videos. She shared, “I didn’t have an account, so I was just dancing on their phones and I’d be like, ‘Oh, can you send me that? That’s so cool.’ Eventually I decided to make my own account because I was having so much fun making all of these dance videos with my friends.”

Because D’Amelio gets so much attention whenever she posts anything, some people might think she often thinks long and hard about what to do in her videos. However, the process is more spontaneous than fans think.
As she revealed to The Guardian, she goes through her “For You” page for interesting sounds she can use. She also goes through her saved and favorited audio clips for ideas. Then, right before filming, she thinks about what she wants to do in the video.
“There’s no planning,” D’Amelio said. “The thing about making a TikTok is, whenever you’re making it, that’s when the ideas come.”
Charli D’Amelio also has a trick for learning TikTok dances
D’Amelio might not always have a carefully-crafted plans for her videos, but it’s clear she puts in a lot of effort to learn TikTok dances. In fact, she has done countless dances over the past couple of years.
In an interview with Elle, D’Amelio revealed some of her tricks for learning dances quickly. “I’ve heard of the trick of duetting the dance video you want to learn and putting it in slow motion to see all the moves slower,” she said.
Additionally, D’Amelio shared that she also likes to return to dances she did to try and improve her moves.
“I always find myself doing a dance that I did a few weeks ago just to do it again and see if I can maybe do it better or do it differently,” she said. “I always enjoy going back to dances that maybe aren’t on trend anymore, but are still super fun.”
