Kit Harington plays Jon Snow, who is connected to a royal family on Game of Thrones. He also happens to be connected to the British royal family in real life. Find out what is the connection and another cool fact about the actor’s family.

Kit Harington’s family is believed to be a descendant of King Charles II

The Haringtons are believed to be the descendants of King Charles II. His uncle is reportedly Sir Nicholas John Harington who is the 14th Baronet that lived from 1942–2016. Sir David Harington is now the 15th Baronet and the next in line is the actor’s father, Sir David Harington.

A baronet is a British hereditary order of honor, but the ranking is pretty similar to commoners. “Sir” is put before the name of a person with this title. The actor doesn’t get impressed by his family history like other people.

There’s an unhealthy obsession in America with royalty and the class system,” he told the Rolling Stone. “‘Oh, my God, you’re the son of a duke!’ I’m not an anti-royalist, but who gives a sh*t?”

One of his ancestors invented the first flushing toilet for Queen Elizabeth I

His family isn’t just tied to the royal family, but an invention that everyone uses now. Harington confirmed his ancestor invented the flushing toilet in an interview.

That’s 100 percent true. It’s called ‘the John Harington,'” he told Insider. He added another thing that his family contributed to the royal family. “[My family] also wrote the queen a lot of bad poetry. I’ve inherited the bad poetry genes, but not the inventor genes.”

His wife, Rose Leslie is also from a noble family in Scotland

Harington and Rose Leslie worked together on Game of Thrones. They fell in love playing characters who fell in love. It turns out that Leslie also is tied to nobility.

Her father is Sebastian, is the Aberdeenshire Chieftain of Clan Leslie and her mother, Candida, is the great-granddaughter of the 13th Lord Lovat. The couple got married and had their reception at Wardhill Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which her father owns.

The castle has since been listed on Airbnb. Her mother revealed to Daily Mail why it’s posted.

My children all encouraged me to do it. It’s just keeping up with the times. It’s the way things are going. It’s quick and clean,” she said. “Rose uses it in other places. She said, ‘Why don’t you try it?’ and helped me set it up.”

The castle has seven bedrooms and bathrooms. It has a dining room that can comfortably fit 16 people. The listing required a two-night stay minimum starting at £600, which is over $800 per night.

So Kit Harington’s family is not only descendants of King Charles II, but one of them invented the flushing toilet for Elizabeth I. He also met his wife who is from a family of nobility while filming the show.
