How Long Were Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London Dating Before He Died?

The rap world may be grieving today as it awakes to news that Grammy-nominated rapper, father, and philanthropist Nipsey Hussle was killed on Sunday, but no one is hurting more so than Nipsey’s longtime partner, Lauren London.

Nipsey, born Ermias Asghedom, was shot outside of his clothing store The Marathon Clothing in South Los Angeles. He was 33.

Nipsey was more than just a rapper, he was a hero in the community that he grew up in and constantly gave back to. He had recently purchased the West Slauson Avenue strip mall where he died in order to reinvest in the area.

His death was announced on Twitter by Eric Garcetti, the mayor of Los Angeles.

“Our hearts are with the loved ones of Nipsey Hussle and everyone touched by this awful tragedy,” he wrote. “L.A. is hurt deeply each time a young life is lost to senseless gun violence. My Crisis Response Team is assisting the families coping with shock and grief.”

Nipsey leaves behind two children Kross and Emani, and London.

How did London and Nipsey meet?

It all started with a mixtape. In 2013, Nipsey was selling his newest mixtape for $100 a piece to get some hype going.

“The marketing for the mixtape was that we only made a thousand units and sold them for a hundred dollars apiece,” Nipsey told GQ in a recent spread. “It was a scarcity model. Jay-Z bought a few copies, et cetera.”

London reached out to Nipsey in order to buy a few copies as gifts for her costars on The Game.

Once she got the mixtapes, she followed the rapper on Instagram which gave him an opening to speak to her. And by speak to her, we mean slide into her DMs.

London and Nipsey’s kids

The two had been together for over five years at the time of Nipsey’s death and had a child together.

When they started a family, it came at the cost of London’s career.

“Lauren was handpicked by John Singleton to do Snowfall,” Nipsey told the outlet. “She read, got the part, shot the pilot…did stunts…this was her dream role. And then she got pregnant with our son. That was a really hard decision for her to make.”

Ultimately, London passed on the role.

“It was the toughest decision of my career by far,” she told GQ.

But Nipsey supported her all the way through.

“I didn’t put any pressure on her for whatever decision she wanted to make,” he continued. “I learned then that what she believes in, she really believes in.”

Nipsey and London’s blended family

When Nipsey met London in 2013, he already had a daughter named Emani from a previous relationship. The rapper showed his daughter off to the world as his date to the Grammys this year where his album Victory Lap was nominated for Best Rap Album of the year.

London and Nipsey worked hard to make their blended family fit together as smoothly as possible.
