How Much Money the Cast of ‘The Office’ Is Worth (And What the Leads Made Per Episode)
2018 has been a great year for the cast of The Office. For one, John Krasinski directed and starred in one of the most successful films of the year, A Quiet Place. Rainn Wilson also starred in the unexpectedly popular shark movie The Meg, and Jenna Fischer starred in a new ABC sitcom, Splitting Up Together. Finally, Steve Carell has three movies coming out in the fall, all of which could be Oscar contenders: Beautiful Boy, Backseat, and Welcome to Marwen.
For nine seasons, The Office was one of the most popular sitcoms on TV, and it only seems to have grown more popular in the years since thanks to its availability on Netflix. So how wealthy did the show make all of its lead actors? How much money did the main stars take home per episode, and what are they up to today? Let’s take a look.
Steve Carell – $50 million
Unlike Michael Scott, Steve Carell himself need not worry about declaring bankruptcy. Celebrity Net Worth estimates his net worth to be about $50 million.
Carell can thank The Office for a lot of his success, although obviously much of his wealth would come from other sources, as he has also starred in hit films like Anchorman, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Despicable Me, and Crazy, Stupid, Love.
In 2010, TV Guide reported that Carell was making about $300,000 per episode for The Office, i.e. $7.8 million per season. This report came out ahead of Season 7, but it’s unclear for how long Carell was at this salary.
John Krasinski – $20 million
Big Tuna himself is doing quite well too, as Celebrity Net Worth estimates that John Krasinski’s net worth is currently $20 million.
Outside of The Office, Krasinski has also starred in recent successful films like 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and A Quiet Place, and he’s about to play the titular character in Amazon’s new series Jack Ryan.
Entertainment Weekly reported in 2007 that Krasinski was paid $20,000 per episode for the first few seasons of The Office but had his salary bumped up to $100,000 per episode by Season 4. This would be somewhere between $1.9 million to $2.9 million per season depending on the number of episodes. It’s unclear whether he got a pay increase from there, but he almost certainly did at least by Season 8 after Steve Carell left.
Jenna Fischer – $15 million
Pam Beesly noted in one Season 7 episode that she was making $41,000 a year working at Dunder Mifflin, but in real life, Jenna Fischer is reportedly worth about $15 million.
Outside of The Office, Fischer has had roles in comedies like Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story and Hall Pass. She also recently starred on the ABC sitcom Splitting Up Together, which will be returning for a second season.
It sounds like Fischer was paid exactly the same salary was Krasinski. According to Entertainment Weekly, she, too, started off at $20,000 per episode and eventually got this bumped this up to $100,000 per episode. Once again, it’s unclear whether Fischer got a raise beyond Season 4.
Rainn Wilson – $14 million
For an assistant to the regional manager, Rainn Wilson has been quite successful, as Celebrity Net Worth estimates him to be worth approximately $14 million.
Wilson has starred in several big movies outside of The Office, including Super, which was directed by James Gunn. He also recently had a major role in the shark blockbuster The Meg, playing the billionaire who funds the deep sea expedition.
It’s unclear what Wilson’s salary for the show was, but it was probably not far behind that of Krasinski and Fischer, i.e. about $100,000 per episode for the latter half of the series.
Mindy Kaling – $24 million
Mindy Kaling did not just star as Kelly Kapoor on The Office; she was also one of the show’s writers and executive producers.
Kaling has had an extraordinary amount of success outside of The Office, starring in and creating The Mindy Project and recently having roles in films like A Wrinkle in Time and Ocean’s Eight. So it makes sense that her net worth is higher than any member of the cast other than Steve Carell: $24 million.
It’s not clear what Kaling’s salary for The Office was, but she reportedly made $150,000 per episode of her own show, The Mindy Project.
Ed Helms – $20 million
Ed Helms joined The Office several seasons in as Andy Bernard, quickly becoming a fan favorite and then slowly devolving into one of the absolute worst characters on the show.
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Helms is worth approximately $20 million, the same amount as John Krasinski. Helms was already a successful actor before joining The Office, having been a correspondent on The Daily Show, but his career really took off after he starred in The Hangover while The Office was still on the air.
Information about Helms’ Office salary is not publicly available, but it was almost certainly higher than $100,000 per episode by Season 8, as the show’s writers (unwisely) made Helms the replacement for Steve Carell by that point.
Ellie Kemper – $4 million
Another latecomer to The Office was Ellie Kemper, who joined the series as receptionist Erin Hannon in Season 5. According to Celebrity Net Worth, she is estimated to be worth about $4 million.
Since The Office, Kemper has gone on to lead her own sitcom, Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which has earned her multiple Emmy nominations.
Although we once again don’t know what Kemper’s salary for The Office was, she’s reportedly making $150,000 an episode for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
B.J. Novak – $8 million
Like Mindy Kaling, B.J. Novak was not just one of The Office‘s stars; he also wrote and produced the series. His net worth is estimated to be about $8 million.
While The Office was still on the air, Novak landed a major movie role when he starred as one of the titular “basterds” in Inglourious Basterds. Since then, Novak has had roles in movies like Saving Mr. Banks and The Founder.
Angela Kinsey – $12 million
You probably wouldn’t expect Angela Kinsey to actually have a higher net worth than Ellie Kemper, but that’s true according to Celebrity Net Worth, which estimates that the actress who played Angela Martin is worth $12 million.
Although The Office was her first major acting role, Kinsey has gone on to appear in movies like Furry Vengeance and shows like Fresh off the Boat. She was also a series regular on the recent shows The Hotwives of Orlando and Haters Back Off.
Brian Baumgartner – $6 million
After playing Kevin for nine seasons, Brian Baumgartner is estimated to be worth about $6 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
In recent years, Baumgartner has been showing up in one-off roles on a wide variety of TV shows, including Disjointed, Life in Pieces, Scream Queens, The Goldbergs, Chicago Fire, Criminal Minds, Mike & Molly, Hot in Cleveland, and Adventure Time.
Oscar Nunez – $3 million
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Oscar Nunez’ net worth is $3 million.
Like Brian Baumgartner, Nunez had been popping up on individual episodes of a whole bunch of shows over the past few years since The Office ended, including Shameless, iZombie, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Life in Pieces, New Girl, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and more. He also had a regular role on the TBS comedy People of Earth.
Although Nunez has mainly stuck with television, he has also appeared in a few films recently, including The 33 and Baywatch.
Leslie David Baker – $3 million
Leslie David Baker’s net worth is reportedly the same as Oscar Nunez’s: $3 million.
Baker has continued to work regularly since The Office ended, although he hasn’t exactly had one huge role that everyone would recognize him from since then. Recently, he lent his voice to Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and he has popped up on episodes of shows like Life in Pieces, Scorpion, and Key & Peele. He also had a nine-episode role on the CMT series Still the King.
Soon, Baker will also have a role in the Melissa McCarthy comedy The Happytime Murders.
Phyllis Smith – $7 million
Phyllis Smith’s net worth is estimated to be worth about $7 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Just two years after The Office ended, Smith landed a major role as Sadness in the hit Pixar film Inside Out. She also recently had a regular role on the Netflix series The OA.
Kate Flannery – $2 million
Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Kate Flannery is worth about $2 million.
Outside of The Office, you may have seen Flannery in episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, and New Girl. She also reunited with her former co-star Rainn Wilson for a small role in the 2014 movie Cooties.
Creed Bratton – $3 million
It sounds like the off-screen Creed Bratton is not too different from the on-screen one, except for, hopefully, all the murders and other crimes that the fictional one has clearly committed. Another difference is that the real Creed is worth $3 million.
Prior to The Office, Bratton was a member of the rock band The Grass Roots, and has since had a solo music career. His real name is William Charles Schneider, the name of the person Creed says he always transfers his debts to in Season 4.
Paul Lieberstein – $14 million
Paul Lieberstein is another one of The Office‘s stars who had a bigger role off-screen than you might have realized. In addition to playing Toby, he was also one of the show’s writers and producers, and he was the series’ showrunner from Season 5 through Season 8.
So it makes sense that, despite Toby not being one of The Office‘s main characters, Lieberstein’s net worth is $14 million, a fact that would likely make Michael Scott furious.
Lieberstein has since gone on to direct episodes of The Newsroom and Ghosted and act in shows like People of Earth.
