‘Little Monsters’

A Hulu original, Little Monsters brings children into the zombie fold. Dave accompanies his nephew’s kindergarten class on a field trip after crushing on the teacher, Miss Caroline (Lupita Nyong’o). But things get really sketchy when zombies attack the parents and children on the rural farm.

Think Shaun of the Dead with kids, and that one annoying character who has it coming. Miss Caroline and Dave must figure out how to keep the kids calm and the zombies at bay.

‘Children of the Corn’

An adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, the 1984 classic is the stuff of cornfield nightmares. Set in Nebraska, the story follows a group of murderous children who wipe out all the adults in town to please their cult leader. An innocent couple passes through, and more chaos unfolds. Stream it on Hulu.

‘Jigsaw’

One of the final entries in the Saw collection, 2017’s Jigsaw saw John Kramer return from the dead for a new game. There’s intense gore, slicing, shooting, and lying. Jigsaw is a complicated tale that revived old characters and sucked new ones into the fray.

‘Us’

Jordan Peele first made his mark in the horror genre with Get Out, and he added to his repertoire with Us. Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss star in this eye-popping tale of doppelgängers who want to take over. It’s a psychological thriller as much as it’s a grade-A horror flick.

‘The Lost Boys’

Released in 1987, The Lost Boys is a fan-favorite teen vampire movie that features Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, and Corey Feldman. Biker gangs and fangs push the story forward while creating a new style of vampire that inspired future TV and film incarnations.

‘Crawl’

While Jaws typically reigns during the summer, Crawl will swim through your mind all Halloween. Alligators lurk in murky floodwaters in this 2019 flick about a hurricane that traps unwitting locals. They must fight the storm and the beasts in order to survive.

‘Fright Night’

Part comedy, part horror, 2011’s Fright Night is a remake of an ‘80s thriller. Colin Farrell plays a convincingly creepy neighbor who may or may not be a vampire. The teenager who lives next door has his own ideas, and it leads to some intense encounters.

‘Teen Wolf’

For something a bit more lighthearted, 1985’s Teen Wolf will do the trick. Michael J. Fox had a hot streak in the ‘80s, and at one time, played a werewolf. This supernatural comedy probably won’t have you 100% rooting for the humans, but it’s worth a watch for those who’d rather skip slasher films. And this one is OK for the kiddos to watch because it’s rated PG.
